I just found out today that a friend of a friend is a born-in moonie. I really want to give him combating cult mind control. I am just curious if it is a bad idea because it was written by a moonie apostate, or if it works well. They guy has doubts, and acts like a born-in who wishes he could leave.

I have never met one but I watched the Channel 4 programme on them last Thursday evening.
They are just as whacky as JWs but the guys at the top are probably OK financially as they practice tything.

Well, Diest, you've had plenty of experience with cults, yourself...
You're in a better position to help your friend, than a LOT of other people with far less experience and knowledge.
Perhaps you could use Ray Franz' books to show your friend what a cult the Watchtower Corporation is?? Then show him the parallels between the Watchtower cult and the Moonies???
Just go slowly - same as with an 'awakening' Jehovah's Witness - let them make most of the discoveries, for themselves - or at least, teach them to think for themselves...

Being ex.-JW could be an advantage . . . you can simply speak about your own "cult experience" and let him draw the parallels. It'll have even more relevance if you're born-in yourself. Plenty of common cross-over there no doubt.
I would avoid avoid a direct criticism of "cults" in general, or the moonies, for a start. ex-JW books will fit in with your approach so I agree with Zid's suggestion. If he fails to connect the dots for himself, then it's simply not his time. It's not a door easily opened by someone else . . . as you probably know. Be sure in your own mind he's really ready for Hassan's books before you unleash them.

It will not be easy to get them out. If you really care about this person get Steve Hassan's book entitled "Combating Cult Mind Control". It is available on Amazon.com. Read it.
Steve is a former Moonie and there are some very good points in that book that can be used with Moonies. One of the things that "turned" him was simply a stranger being nice. When people attack Moonies they just see it as proof that they are right.
Anyway, much too detailed to cover in a forum post, get the book and you will learn a lot about "Moonies" & Witnesses

Make use of his first hand experience in the cult and leaving it, not to mention the help he's given to get out?
