One of my wife's friends (active JW) made contact a few months ago. She's declared that she won't stop associating "no matter what they do to me".
I had written e-mails last year to this JW critical of shunning. Now that she's stopped I find that I really don't care what else she wants to believe. There's lots I'd like to tell her about the WTBTS, but I think she'll find it all out in time. She's already asked about the child abuse issue. She got a clipping from a non-jw cousin about the lawsuit, so I think that without the isolation that the WT craves for it's members she'll soon be well informed and free.
To me the shunning and avoidance of non-jws is the main thing thats wrong with the WT.
Shunning stopped, now what?

I share your insight Thinker, that the only thing wrong with a high control group, is that it behaves as if it were a high control group.
Hope you are having a good year.
