Just throwing this out there:
You live near a river that is your source of drinking water. This river flows from a toxic lake. Now...even though many filtering plants and diluting processes have been set in place in the river, would you still feel comfortable drinking from that river?
~ A day no season would claim ~
Dont drink the water.
Warn your neighbours.
Get several qualifed bodies to test the potability of the water.
Then form action groups to lobby the authorities to clean up the water at source or close the drinking outlets.
In the meantime make sure that everybody knows the quality of what they are ingesting so that they can make an informed decision.
I think I would wait and see what happens to other people who are drinking from the river before deciding whether to drink from it myself.

Hell no...I would bottle up a sample and get it tested at an independent lab and depending upon the results, launch a lawsuit against the polluters.
