Eric Sykes died yesterday, aged 89. He is one of the all-time greats in British comedy.

His short film The Plank bypasses all national boundaries and you'll see is just right for this forum.

Sorry the fullest length video I could find is put onto Youtube by a Russian, (I think). But it is all mime, and as you'll see is nonetheless in English!

It's hilarious! A good antidote to anything serious or distressing!

Edit: The other actor is Arthur Lowe, whom you may know as Captain Mainwaring, of Dad's Army fame!

I used to love his stuff when I was a kid. Haven't seen anything for years.

He kept on acting almost up to the end. I saw him not so long ago playing an old person in an old people's home in one of the crime or hospital series, can't remember which.

Nice to see Jimmy Edwards as the policeman in this.

Eric was also chronically deaf. he gave up on hearing aids as the elctronics in studios caused him to much trouble. he got by with brilliant lip reading.

A great talent now gone to rest.

He absolutely was great, wasn't he?

It makes you smile just to look at him.

    Nice man.

    Very funny and decent man.

A different era, it reminds me of my childhood watching him and Hatty Jakes.

    Thanks for posting.
