Teddy Roosevelt Confronts the WT Concerning the Higher Ed Policy

The WT policy on higher education was very hard on me. I made plans to live with a foster family, assuming a judge would grant such an order.

I was cleaning out some books today and came across some thoughts from President Roosevelt that sum up the situation very well.

"A muttonhead, after an education at West Point - or Harvard -- is a muttonhead still." Perhaps one for the WT.

He played both sides of the street. The apostate comment:

"A man who never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad."

Although I do not know how this reference connects to the Watchtower, I get the understanding that the above statement has strong relevancy to our time. Take the case of the recession meltdown. The huge underworld dealings by giant bank Executives nearly brought down the whole country to its kneel. To this date, the US economy is still reeling.

It not only speaks of morality. Corporations cannot be placed in prison. They pay fines, instead.

Roosevelt was showing how education allows you to join an elite and control power to some degree. WT doctrine may not be wackier than any other religion. The overreaching bothers me. Imagine what the JWs could do if members had the skills and knowledge to place this new religion, a faux Christianity, to the best advantage in this world and the world to come. When I took Episcopalian confirmation class, my teacher explained that all our gifts shoud be dedicated to God. I started to cry b/c the disparity in outlook was so great. Everyone else assumed he was stating the obvious. He doesn't want our rote showing. Rather our talents in many fields are offered to God. Look at DaVinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael and then compare it to WT illustrations. Listen to classical church music and then listen to Kingdom Melodies.

Why would God give us these gifts and encourage us not to develop them? He is a very redundant God.?

Does anyone believe in today's culture that knocking on doors and delivering a very rote speech advances the religion? It is quantity rather than quality.

Of course, Bethel pays enormous sums to consultants. The new world will need window washers. Window washers alone will not be enough, by themselves, to stop total chaos and breakdown of society.

Great point about the Kingdom melodies: they, like the reading materials themselves, are pablum: bland, utilitarian, one-size-fits-all-so-do-you-think-you're-special?

No worries about chaos in NSOT: just like how the miraculous events depicted in the Bible are explained away with those 3 easy words ("God did it!"), ALL difficult issues in the NS will be solved by changing the tense, eg "God will do it"! World's energy problems? God will handle it, unlike stoopid (sic) unworthy mortal men, who tried doing it on their own and failed, making such a mess of it that had to step in as if to say, "you're doing it wrong! Stand aside!"). Leave the hounds of Armageddon....

There will be no need for engineers, designers, or any skills except for what is already encouraged: skills like carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc. If you remember, there was a wt many years ago that specifically stated that these trades are GOOD PRACTICE for the skills needed in the New System, so why not learn them now? Oh, lots of clean-up skills needed: I know some JWs who helped clear debris post-Katrina, seeing it as good practice for Post-Armageddon (since the skills of cleaning an empty office don't QUITE simulate that). Bring a Saws-All!

None of which requires critical thinking skills, but just the ability to follow simple, detailed technician-level instructions (the same basic skill needed by enlisted members of the military when entering; the officers and NCOs are the ones who are eventually trained to be the leaders, not the privates).

The use of Katrina imaginary to visualize what JWs would be doing in the New System is interesting. However, I seriously doubt they will live to see it happen in their time. Almost all Watchtower diehards including the 1914 founders and endorsers are now dead. Yet the deception keep living on. I think, that is nomore than being a fallback position to survive.
