While I have been here before, I was just sent a link to this post and so I signed up to explore and reply.
Thanks so much for your kind words about ABOVE THE UNIVERSE BELOW. I'm so happy you enjoyed it! I not only grew up as a JW... but I was an elder, bethelite, pioneer, served in South America for awhile - so you KNOW I know the craziness.
With the novel, I didn't want to write something that only JW's or ex-jw's could/would read, but really create a story that anyone not even remotely familiar with the religion would still find enlightening. I've had a lot of readers who can't believe that JW families treat their family members the way Mandy/Rabbit is treated. I also wanted people who are DF'ed or are no longer JW's to realize they CAN rebuild their lives. We all just need to aggressively find and create our chosen families.
