If I Woke Up As A Black Man.....

I'm kinda surprized that no one has ever designed a racial version of "Metamorphosis". "Black Like Me" made a big impression on me as a youth. It's overdue for a revival.

You wake up one morning maybe and see yourself in a mirror: "WTF! Was I under that that tanning bed too long? What happened? I'm black!"

OK, first, I'd drop my pants...... just to check if any of that stereotype stuff is true..... All Right! Yes!

Second, I'd find some 'plano' glasses or whatever. I'd want to seem smart and intellectual. No, you can't look thru my specs, sorry.

Thirdly, I'd get my darker hued derriere to Britain or a former British colony. How come? So I could learn an English accent and NOT 'gangsta' so that I could be treated differently.

I'd try to become good with numbers - so that I might become 'that black dude who's good at math'. I'd practise vocabulary just because it triggers thoughts about how smart you are.... I might study law....

There are people who just give up. There are people who adapt to the world. There are people who change the world and its prejudices or at least try (and may get shot). I'd try goin' with the middle approach.

Someday, I'll think about What Would Happen If I Woke Up As A Woman ("No, no, no ! Where's my Pen*s, God D*mn it !!!! Oh, wait a minute.... Boobs ! I have BOOBS ! Yes, yes, yes........")

    Flame on, Dudes,

as a black dude who was taking upper division college math courses at 16, played the violin from 9-16, loved classical msic as much as he loved jazz and hip hop and with a pretty good vocablary to boot (juust so happen to love books of all types, especially the original doyle sherlock holmes mysteries)...

let me tell you despite your scenario, prejuudices are very much alive and well. i say that despite not having that many black friends (i grew up as a jehovah's witness in east san diego...even though there was plenty of black people near my hall they weren't joining the cult) and not being 'gangsta' in any form or fashion.

yes, as an individual, you can put your best foot forward, but that doesn't mean the other person will interpret your moves correctly.

that's not to say i'm giving up, by no means would i. i nderstand that for my children (if i ever were to have any) to have a better future as at least partially black citizens....i'd have to prove on my own basis that not all black people are like what you see on your favorite cop drama.

I think if I woke up as a woman I would spend all day giggling in front of a mirror. The second day might get interesting.

So the message you want to send with this is that if the average Black man was as clever and motivated as you, they would, as a whole, be more successful?

Interesting and more than a little megalomaniacal theory you have there.

You spelled practice the British way.

Sure to be the truth, Two-Third.
