Jehovah's Witness parents to meet with health officials
CP
CALGARY -- Jehovah's Witness parents who disagree over blood transfusions for their 16-year-old leukemia-stricken daughter will meet with health officials this week.
The Calgary couple will discuss her care and the degree of access they should have.
The 51-year-old father says his wife's resistance to the treatments on religious grounds is detrimental to his daughter's health.
But the lawyer for the mother says there's been no resistance -- she simply wants to see her daughter's wish not to have transfusions respected.
The man -- who can't be named under laws protecting the identity of his daughter -- says his family wants little to do with him since he supported the transfusions.
The family has banned him from his daughter's hospital room when Witness meetings are piped in over the speaker phone.
Meetings occur several times a week and sometimes last all day.
