Society Man
Casting away symbols of a peaceful age,
He runs to escape the void that stalks,
It seeks to master his misplaced courage,
Like a jungle denizen with padded feet.
Running faster and faster with wind in hair,
tightness of muscle, and a conqueor's face,
All vain attempts to desperately defy,
The emptiness in everything, with every leap.
The forest trees like towers of knowledge,
Reveal the great chasm that lies beneath him,
So, he cuts them down 'lest they not expose,
The lies that he speaks...to his own defeat.
Displays of piety and absolute power,
Give way to those of humble means.
Closer now, closer...he is becoming,
In the broadways he forges his god-like feats.
But the elusive birds, like whisperers of truth,
Assault with troubling dreams and contorted faces,
They prophesy in pain about things long ignored,
The symbols are not lost...only buried deep.
Demanding to possess what he cannot grasp,
Refusing to believe it's as simple as that,
"Love is a weakness", "rules equal life"
It's almost over now. Has he become a beast?
