    Hi,

Why do Jehovah's Witnesses get so angry when you tell them that they never donate to charities other than their own pseudo-charity?

Read what happened this weekend when one of my friends brought this point up at the dinner table.

When we donate to a charity we don't know how the money is used and neither do we when we donate to the watchtower

They are not forbidden from donating to charities that have no political or religious connections, the WT says it is a personal matter but then gives a lot of space to saying that such charities can never solve the problems and the dubs time and resourses are best used "supporting the kingdom", ie the WTS.

Family members that are "in" will distrust charities' real motives and say that they get fat on the backs of it.. I am sure a lot of dubs never give to charities. I have known some who would reach into their pocket for a good cause but never spend time collecting for charity or doing a sponsored event. That is just not done in dubland...

@Hoser - We do know where the donations go - Towards court settlements and law suits...

Gone are the days when their money used to actually go on something worthwhile.

What days were those? I have never seen them do anything with their contributions other than to build bigger and bigger facilities for themselves.

Compare the JW's with Acts 5 where the early Christians sold their possessions to distribute money to those in need. Not to mention Jesus tremendous pity and compassion in caring for the sick and suffering.

ps - ignore the obviously false story of Ananias and Saphira instantly dropping dead for not declaring all their sale proceeds.

The big wigs of the Borg do not like the dubbies giving to other charities.

They believe all the riches of this world belong to Jehovah & as they are the only ones to be on the other end of God's hotline to Earth they are the only ones to be trusted to carry out his will.

When we donate to a charity we don't know how the money is used

That is a broad assertion. It is not true for many charities, especially smaller and local ones. If I donate to the local Habitat for Humanity branch, that money stays here--it is used to build a lower-income house in our town. A donation to the local homeless shelter or food bank has visible, local results. These organizations have small staffs, mostly volunteer, and the few paid members are nowhere close to being 1%-ers.

Information on charities, their budgets, and their expenses literally at your fingertips.
