I remember back when I was in "The Truth" (TRADE MARK)

The mags back then always was a question like. When will there be no more tears?, Will we ever see our loved ones?, Is Satin real????

I always hated thoese leading questions. They always sound so stupid and like a 3rd grade reading.

Its been about 20 years since I seen one of there mags, but do they still do that?

And by the way I have an old "food ticket" from one of the coventions. Its just a $1.00 but I want my money back.

Is there a form on this web site I can fill and get my money back? Thanks GH

I think you have raised a thrillingly important question. It requires an evidence-based answer. A perusal of the latest magazines reveals that - predictably - the reliance on Stupidly-Titled Questions continues well into 2012. Here's the latest batch for your information:

" Stupidly Titled Questions About the Future On Our Magazine Covers - Are They Now Passe?"

"Do Readers Ever Tire of Flicking Through Stupidly Titled Articles?"

"Is The End of Stupidly Titled Lead Articles Closer Than You Think?

"Is It Wise To Read Articles That Have Stupid Titles?"

"Why Does God Permit Stupidly Titled Articles?"

"Will Suffering Whilst Reading Stupidly Titled Articles Ever End?

"Are All Stupidly Titled Articles True?"

"Do You Long For An Earth With No More Stupidly Titled Articles?"

Even worse is in the articles when the writers ask a question, but then emphatically answer it (with an exclamation point), eg "Is God going to allow evil to continue forever? Certainly not!"

The reader almost feels as if they're eavesdropping on someone else's conversation....

The reader almost feels as if they're eavesdropping on someone else's conversation....

Or the reader feels patronized and spoken down to as if they were a child or intellectually slow.

One of my favourite stupid questions from years back involved the use of the expression, "why not...?" This may well be used a bit differently in US English from British English. In Brit "why not do so and so?" is the equivalent of, "let's do so and so." In Us it may mean. "why ought we not to do so and so?" (Maybe someone will enlighten me.)

The Studpidly Titled Article in one of the mags was : "Why not commit fornication?" To which, of course, some of us thought, "Hey, great idea!"

I can take care of that for you.

Just send me the food tickets, along with a $19.95 handling fee, and I will cheerfully see to it that your $1.00 is refunded.
