Rachel Marie Blasingame then 16 years old, died in a horrific accident in 2003. The truck driver who killed her was DWI. Her Parents Julie and Guy Blasingame, with state support, put up a sign that read "In memory of Rachel Blasingame.” See full story below.

Recently, the sign post was taken down by the State because its only allowed to last two years. Please, what do you think? Is ok for her to fight to keep sign posting timeless? Is this the best way to remember those that have died in auto accidents? Thank you for your perspective. Out of support, I have emailed Julie Blasingame a message of support on her facebook at http://www.facebook.com/julie.blasingame.3

There needs to be some limit or every highway will run through a forest of crosses.

I have seen places where every family has been burying it's dead in permanent edifices in their best piece of ground since the religious nutters imposed their gods and culture on them a couple of hundred years ago. If they had been doing that for the previous thousand years, they would be looking for somewhere else to live by now.

I thoughtthat was a good reason worthy of notice. In the end, those crosses might be a distraction to motorist. However, in the case of Rachel Mari Blasingame, it was a mere sign but possibly not a cross. The article provides some information from supporters who states , they benefited from seeing those posts along the road. They state, it has helped them slow down or something along that way. Whatever the reason, I think, this issues is debatable.

In the state of Western Australia, if the family wish they can erect a cross on the road where they have lost loved ones to road death. These crosses remain and, yes there are lots of them.

    Hi zeb,

I deeply appreciate your contribution to this thread. Your Australia perspective sounds interesting. However all said, Mr. Black Sheep argues in his contribution that "there needs to be some limit or every highway will run through a forest of crosses".

    Such a sad loss....

I have experienced this matter personally and support the right of a state or county to set limits.

I also understand her loved ones weren't emotionally prepared to see it removed and respect their desire to challenge the limits as they continue to grieve.

yknot, I did not know that you too experienced this tragedy. Pleaese, how did it feel that way? How did you cope with the situation? I think, the pain of your experience must have been unimaginable.
