Last night I got to thinking about all that type and antitype foolishness, and how with these latest changes they've essentially thrown Russell under the bus. Do you think the type/antitype belief system possibly brought about this latest change in understanding? According to the notes on this latest change, Russell was NOT the faithful & discreet slave, however just like John the Baptist, he was the one forshadowing someone that would turn out to be larger in scope. The verse about John the Baptist being less than the least of someone in the Kingdom comes to mind as well.

The other thing I'm wondering about is the time frame between Russell's death, and Rutherford's ascension. The years are similar to the scope of time between Jesus' baptism, John's imprisonment, Jesus' ministry, and John's death. There's a lot of variables that the WT can draw off of to make their case for this new change.

Russell set the stage for Rutherford's cadillacs and booze hounding.

It strikes me that they're probably salivating at the prospect of re-writing JW theology from the ground up. All those thousands of references to "the faithful and discreet slave" in years past are now utterly & completely wrong, and new applications of prophecies, parables, etc. will be needed.

Like 8 year olds with a giant new set of legos.

Of course, the originators of all those old teachings are now dead & gone, so they have the liberty to do as they please.

Sets an interesting precedent. In the past, cherished teachings were preserved, perhaps amplified or built upon, but pretty much constant.

Now they've upended the whole apple cart in a few hours time. What else do they have in mind?

In 20-30 years the current GB will be dead or senile - what changes will the next generation bring about?

They already have taught something similar with respect to Elijah and Elisha.

Now they are saying things like Russell harvested grain and kneaded the dough but Rutherford, et al. baked the bread.... (from the Annual Meeting)

I think this gives them the authority to say that everything that Charles Taze Russell believed and taught prior to 1919 (other than 1914) was bullshit...yet everything till now still is BS.
