Locally, back in the 90's, there were two baptized sisters who committed murder of their neighbor. The PO was sent to the prison to speak with them to DF asap. I doubt they will make that much effort in this case. Just an auto DF
How will the WT "officially" respond to the Heichel case?

Blondie - I had not heard about that story. Terrible...
To me, what has helped garner attention to the Whitney Heichel story was the fact that the family did not shy away from press conferences. Photos showed them grieving. Photos of Whitney were already available on Facebook and others released by the family caught a nation's eye. Yes, she is photogenic. Her personality seems to come through the lens. You look at them and you feel like you know her. Add to that that Holt was caught pretty darn quick...while her disappeance was still fresh in everyone's mind. And as the terrible reality set in, people turned to social media to help cope. Even the family is using a Facebook memorial page where people from all over the world can comment/give condolences. The power of social media helped make this not only a national story, but international.
Once again, the WTS underestimated the power of modern technology. They have also failed in trying to keep its followers from using these modern conveniences. In today's world, trying to convince someone, especially people the age of Whitney and her husband, not to use social media, the Internet, etc. is like trying to convince people to not use electricity.

I doubt they will. Have they done so in the past? Christan Longo...etc...Although I'm sure the local hall is in close contact with legal dept.
Following the commenting thread over on the local stations website. Pretty funny...JWs sound so stupid to me now.

Doubting Bro
Blondie,
I had forgotten about the Slack case and teared up reading it. I hope they are tortured everyday in prison.
I don't think the WTS will officially respond. I guarantee that the family statement was handed to them by the WTS legal department.

To be fair, why should they say anything? Besides, from a legal point of view, even if they issued a press statement, it would need to be done with careful legal advice given that the alleged perpetrator has yet to be charged and face the judicial system. When a matter is before the Courts, it can be an offence to "second guess" outcomes (i.e., treat the defendant as though already tried and found guilty) and/or be in contempt of the judicial process.

They'll eventually DF Holt, but only after the publicity has died down and the news of his being excommunicated from the church that Whitney went to won't be newsworthy enough to follow by most media sources.
Well, that would have the virtue of assuaging public sentiments about the "character" of the defendant's religious affiliation. However, it might be difficult to disfellowship Holt if he is found "Not guilty by Reason of Insanity" or, if found guilty, Holt expresses total remorse (of course, he'd still have to face sentencing by the Courts - but in theory - and if found guilty - he would not automatically be disfellowshipped (unless I've missed something in the publications about disfellowshipping being automatic if the "sin" is grievous enough?).

" How will the WT " officially " respond to the Heichel case ? " In my opinion- they won't respond at all. Stonewall as James Woods stated. WT Society is already up to their necks in trounle with child abuse cases, especially Candace Conti's case. WT leaders would just as soon fade off the news radar . I feel they'll distance themselves from this murder like they try to distance themselves from most of the rank & file JW's. Out of sight, out of mind

Reading the story BLONDIE posted makes me feel like crying and throwing up all at once. I don't remember ever reading that story before.
