Ok Watchtower: will you be sending a DO to the funerals in Nigeria?

    Well will you?

Obviously you 'cared' about Whitney's death, a horrible tragedy, enough to rally the troops and send a district overseer no less, to give the funeral talk.

Do you care enough about the 20 poor JW's that died in that tragic truck cum bus accident in Nigeria? Who will you be sending to the funerals? What demonstration of the great brotherly love will you do for them?

Or is it a case of 'damage control' in Whitney's case and 'time and unforseen occurance' for your african faithful?

    Good point, Aussie Oz...

We'll be watching this thread for any updates... But I doubt that the Watchtower will publicly reveal their lack of empathy for the Nigerian JWs.

Don't you think there are DOs in Nigeria?

I would hope the Nigerian R&F gets the same kind of attention from them that the Oregon family got from the West Coast DO.

Face it, DOs have little to do thru the week. They just show up for the Cir Assms and keep the COs in line.

It's not like they sent someone in from the Branch/HQ.

Perhaps a terrible tragedy like this is not the ideal topic for neither bad jokes nor easy critisism? Many children have lost their parents, many parents have lost their children, families have been wiped out - they should not be the object of sarcasm.

    It isn't "sarcasm", Old Hippie.

We've all seen the inconsistent behaviors of the Watchtower Society, especially where money - large amounts of it - is involved. So we're curious as to just how the Watchtower Society is going to handle the deaths of so many JWs, compared to the single very PUBLIC death of a lone female JW in Oregon, who just happened to be killed by a fellow JW, whether or not he was in "good standing" at the time of the crime.

I imagine this is a huge news story in Nigeria.

I would fully expect the WT branch there to send representatives to the funerals, COs and/or DOs, possibly even branch committee members. With 20 funerals they would most likely send several persons.

Aussie - I once attended a congregation where, just a few years prior, a well-known family in the hall was on their way to the Kingdom Hall. Cross the rail road tracks, a friggin train took them out. horrible. just horrible. Congregation was DEVASTATED. I never knew them, but those who did would always sadly point out how this tragedy "just shows you that this is Satan's System." But yet, the WTBS loves to tell these "experiences" of how some Sister in Warzonia lost her job, walked 360 miles through crocodiles, warring militias and active volcanos to attend the Convention and was blessed for it with a new and better job. Given the predominant JW attitude towards these kinds of occurances, it is certainly fair to ask how the WTBS will spin this. Why does their interpretation of God protect some "faithful servants" and not others?

TheOldHippie - I completely respect your view, you're right. ANYBODY dying is a terrible tragedy, and should be handled with care. However, I don't think the OP is treating this in a disrespectful or undiginified way. He is asking a legitimate question.

Chances are, there will be little mention of this in the Western world. Therefore, our discussing this incident may be the only attention it gets, sadly. But lots of confused JWs come here as well as other people who may be thinking about becoming JWs to get a glimpse of the reality of this religion. So their reading questions like the one Aussie posted here might make a difference and help prevent someone from dragging their families and children into this harmful cult. But you are right, it should be treated with dignity.

The WTS should give the Nigerians a decent bus to travel to these conventions instead of a truckloads of valueless literature.

    Ah, but Gayle...

That would show a lack of faith that "jehovah" will provide... [I just HAD to say that!!]
