We had my little girls first birthday party yesterday, and in my head I knew nothing was wrong with it. But I was still not comfortable, I still felt like I was doing something wrong, until I looked at my little girl and seen how happy she was, the smile on her face, for the first time in her life so many people was there just for her. At that point, I knew nothing was wrong with it, once a year a person should be treated that way, helps your self worth. Now I really feel sorry for the little JWS kid, I wish all of them could go through what my little girl did. Oh she is 9. And in January my boy will be 16, and Im renting a big hall and having a huge party for him, and yall are all invited.

Turkey,
Thanks for the invite!!
Your post is exactly right on. We had my daughter's first b-day party 3 months ago, she is 3. It felt awkward until she opened the gifts. Then it felt wonderful! She keeps asking for another birthday party!

Gopher, that was the same time I was ok with the birthday party, when she opened the gifts. WoW.

"felt like I was doing something wrong"
In one of Tony Robbins tapes he mentions how our beliefs become part of our neurology. As you grow in knowledge and use your thinking ability your neurology will change.
A couple years ago my girl was your daughters age,for the birthday party I got her an ice cream cake with her picture on it- what a self esteem booster!

Glad the party was such a good time. Its nice hearing about how people are going on and living normal lives outside of the JW's. Keep on this track and everything will be so much better than it ever could have been in the JW's.
I don't feel like Satan but I am to them.

I was thinking of having a b-day party for my little girl! I was talking to a friend of mine and he said I should really "do it up" for her!
She'll be one pretty soon and I was thinking of having a cake and seeing her smush her hands all in it!

Birthdays, another sign of the hypocrisy of the Jay Dubs. My dub family will have nothing to do with birthday celebrations form my grandsons, but, last year when the oldest step-daughter turned 16, they had no problem accepting a Lobster dinner at Red Lobster on her birthday. I guess as long as no cake is served, it is alright.
Of course, I didn't even get a thank you from the little hypocrit. Weeks later, when I was being accused of never showing appreciation for her, I mentioned the birthday dinner. Her reply was that since it didn't tell her advance that it was for a show of appreciation, it didn't count. Also, it was just a material thing and she didn't celebrate birthdays anyway.
What love comes from JWs!
Last week, she turned 17 and I didn't acknowledge it in anyway. Guess what? I'm now accused again of not showing appreciation since I didn't even acknowledge her birthday. You just can't win for losing!
If God's Spirit is filling a Kingdom Hall, how is it that Satan can manuever the ones within that Kingdom Hall at the same time?

Hey Wildturkey,
That touched my heart. The kids deserve this kind of attention. I have two of my own and their smiles are priceless. Keep on makin' them happy.

WT - Very cool! I know the guilt part, it is something left that just won't go away at times. Glad your daughter had fun! My daughter's birthday is this Tuesday, ourselves.
Kisses,
Moe
