JW's Would Say This is Jehovah Reaching Out to Me

Unless I am expecting a call about something medical with family or mechanical with the car, I am trying to get to the point where I let unknown callers on my cellphone just go to voicemail. It's harder to just let it go when it's a local number because I figure it's someone I know, then I am usually wrong and it is just some sales call.

So I finally did it with this call. My phone rang, I was busy. I just let it go to voicemail. I listened a few hours later. "Hello, Brother [OTWO], this is Sister [Jane Doe]. (Must be 80-something years old.) We went to pioneer school together (11 years ago). I was going through my phonebook and saw your number and thought I would just call and say hello. Call back if I have reached the right person."

My cell has my voice with a generic, "You have reached 123-555-5555, leave a message and I will return your call." So if you hadn't spoken to me in a decade, you would not be sure you reached the right number.

My point is pretty clear. JW's are like many other firm believers. If you look for an incident/coincidence to be more than that, you will find what you need. If I told my JW wife or mother about the call, they would go on and tell me how Jehovah is working through [Jane Doe] to call me back to active Witness status. Kind of like sending JW's all over the frigging world to knock on doors and then finding a few instances of people saying they were just praying for some kind of help that morning when the knock came.

I do not intend to return the call.

    Way out,

Your wife would then say you are working against the holy spirit!!

Jehovah's Witnesses aren't the only ones who would make that claim, but you're right - mention this to any active JW and they'll use it as an opportunity to count time - er, 'encourage' you to return to "the fold".

Just out of curiosity, have you ever run that "shepherds don't safeguard the sheep for the sheeps' sake; they do it for the wool, milk and meat" thought past your JW relatives??

Balaamsass, yes. So what would be new about that?

ziddina, I know that is true. So many would say the same.

Again, i f you look for an incident/coincidence to be more than that, you will find what you need.
