So, this brings up the fundamental question about the actual content of Watchtower-related material in general.
What is the intended function?
I'd say it has exactly the same function as a crossword puzzle in the Sunday Times.
You get excited over the challenge. You work really hard at solving it. You feel a sense of accomplishment.
And then....that sucker is DONE!
What usefulness is there for a "solved" crossword puzzle? Why would anybody save it?
What good is it for reference?
It is something intended to engage the mind and make you feel clever and productive but has no lasting value except to "sharpen" your mind for yet another one and another one.
Closed circuit.
Veteran JW's gain an aptitude for reading the jargon in these published works--which is NOT easy for a beginner!
There is not a natural flow of presentation for the human mind to absorb. The grammer is awkward and the reasoning artificial.
But, with a bit of practice.....you get better and better at it; almost like learning a new language.
The absence of competing reading matter magnifies the importance of cracking the code, as it were, and pulling out the highlights
which are purported to contain "meat in due season".
But, for all the razz-ma-tazz and hoopla...the New Light is useless in a practical world.
In the 1930's a popular radio program for kids was Little Orphan Annie. At the end of each week's drama a secret code would be given for the kids listening at home to solve. However....the code could not be solved without an official Orphan Annie ring decoder.
How could your child obtain the decoder ring? You had to buy the advertiser's product and mail in a certain number of boxtops, etc.
This process could take quite awhile!
The eager youngster would demand that their parent buy the product, naturally. Then, the family had to consume the product and buy another and another so as to collect the proper number of boxtops.
Then, a self-addressed stamped envelope had to be mailed off along with those collected boxtops.
Followed by a lengthy waiting period until the secret decoder ring arrived!
The child was beside themselves with anticipation!!
Every day the postman would be badgered by neighborhood kids: "Did you bring my ring" "When are you gonna bring my ring!?"
Imagine the celebration and enthusiasm when the postman finally delivers the longed-for prize!
The child runs home from school and dashes up the steps into the house screaming "Did it come...did it come yet, Mom?"
And the most beautiful answer in all the world comes ringing to their ears: "YES! It came in the mail and here it is!"
The evelope is shredded open in a flurry of unrepressed exhuberance and the cheap little trinket ring falls out on the table with a dull thud!
The code is entered on the dial and turned....just so....and the letter underneat is written down on a piece of paper.
What mysterious and wonderful hidden message will finally be revealed?
What is Orphan Annie trying to tell her devoted listeners?
Is the security of the nation at stake? Is it life or death? WHAT IS IT??
Letter by letter the vitally significant secret message unfolds: D..........................R.................I................N.................K..........M
............O...................R.......................E..................M...................I......................L............................................K
What the hell?
