These questions have no right or wrong answers. But, if you'd like to answer any of them I think it could be interesting to hear what you have to say! How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are? Which is worse, failing or never trying? If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do? When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done? Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing? To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken? Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be? How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy? What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? Are you holding onto something you need to let go of? Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend? Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first? Has your greatest fear ever come true? Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now? Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before? If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today? What is the difference between being alive and truly living? If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake? |

"Which is worse, failing or never trying?"
Never trying I think, although in order to not try requires the effort to make the decision not to try and the ability to remain unmoving which will make the 'not-trying' successful.

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
I would not be an age. I would just be.Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Never trying. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
We're clueless. We're following traditions that do not apply to us. We don't know what we want, but are afraid to do anything that goes against the grain. (sometimes for the betterment of others though, we do things that we might not like... such as support a family)When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
I hope not.Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
A little bit of both.To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
Not sure. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Doing the right things. (might help explain the times i don't do things right)If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
A newborn doesn't understand advice. I would offer it love. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
Maybe 'happy' is subjective. (expecations of happiness vary among us... and few people are happy all the time - some dont' even think about such things) (I have another answer that is morbid, and so i did not want to write it, lol)What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?
Nothing in particular.... not for myself... at least not at this moment. I've crossed off a few, and the feeling i thought i would get usually isn't all I thought it would be. Now i just want to help others, and those I love with their goals. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Probably.Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
Working on it. I'm too internal, too much of a loner, too reserved. I have my good points, too, lol... but I don't want to go into those. Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
I think so. (that it is possible)Has your greatest fear ever come true?
I have had some doozies come to pass. My greatest fear though... no.Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
Only what I learned from it matters.Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
Many days. Not all of them though. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
I would ask my family who they want to visit, and do that with them. (unless i knew that someone would NEED me to be there in particular)What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
Secular answer: Existing vs. doing. I'll save the answer from faith unless you want to hear it - it expands upon the above ;)If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Different reasons for different people. Fear of embarrasment. Pride. Fear of hurting someone else. Fear of hurting oneself. Peace, tammy -

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
Thirty.
Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Never trying.
If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Gotta obey the law. Gotta obey the law.
When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Hope not.
Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
No. I settled. Past tense. I plan to change that.
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
I want to say 50%- but 100%- I had the power all along- just like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz had the power, but didn't realize it.
Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Was worried about both. NOT anymore.
If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
A newborn will not understand me, Terry. Maybe a toddler would!
How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
Says who?
What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?
Terry, if I tell you then you won't be surprised!
Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Yes, and it is bigger than a breadbox. (Not that!)
Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
Yes, I have then, and I am now.
Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
Terry, the truth about what? Did I just challenge? The answer is Yes. No. Maybe. Well, it all depends on the circumstances. Sure, it's possible!
Has your greatest fear ever come true?
I hope so, then I won't have to ever be afraid again.
Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
I remember it like it was yesterday. No it doesn't. But, I knew at the time that it wouldn't.
Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
Not today, but yesterday I did.
If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
No one. I would have everyone visit me.
What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
Existence is not living. It is being. It is inactive. Living is energy, doing. Living is active. Living is being a participator.
If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
I have learned from my mistakes. I don't know. But, I don't think I am afraid of mistakes anymore.

I don't think that I'll try to answer EVERY question, but some that "hit home" with me, that resonate, I'll try that: How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are? For me, about 700 years old. I honestly feel that I've been through at least 7 lifetimes, each lasting 100 years, what with all the crap that I've had to go through. When will it ever end???
If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be? STOP RIGHT THERE, KID! Don't get any older than you are right now. End it all now. It doesn't get any better from here on out. YOu'll live to regret getting any older, you really will.
How come the things that make you happy don't make everyone happy? I don't know that anything DOES make me happy anymore.
What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? Go into hibernation---for the next 50 to 60 years. That's right, there are times that I just want to "turn off" to all reality, and hibernate in a cave somewhere, and not awaken and arise until 50 or 60 years have passed, and THEN see what the world has become. But, for the next 50 years or so, I'm "gettin' out of Dodge".
Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of? Yeah, probably...such as my cynicism, my jaded-ness, my anhedonic tendencies, my skeptcism.
Do you feel like you've lived this day a hundred times before? Well, maybe not THIS particular day, but this lifetime, yeah...a hundred times or more.
What is the difference between being alive and truly living? I suppose that "being alive" is existing and going through the motions; truly living is have passion, enthusiasm, excitement, which is what I no longer have...that's where my anhedonia kicks in.
There, that's all that I'll comment on at this time.

Yeah, probably...such as my cynicism, my jaded-ness, my anhedonic tendencies, my skeptcism.
Perhaps ;)
On a serious note, Titch, I'm sorry to hear how hard things are for you right now. I have been there. I think most of us have. It does pass. Every time I have ever been where you sound to be right now, has passed. I have come out the other side of that tunnel. Might not seem like it can, but it does pass.
Just wanted to tell you that, even though you might know it. Sometimes it helps to hear it.
Peace and strength to you,
tammy

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
Don't have an age in my head
Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Never trying, by far
If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
We don't always have the determination to get out there and do what we really want to do. Life is short, so better not waste more time than necessary on things we don't like.
When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
Try not to speak unless I know I am going to do what I say. So hopefully in the end I'll have done most of what I said I would do. And if I haven't, then will probably have at least tried.
Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
Since leaving the borg and realizing I only have one life with a big chunk of it having been wasted you know where, I am no longer a settler. (Wasn't much of a settler before either)
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
I have pretty much controlled every step of my life, it's just that up until recently I controlled it based on false information. Have always hated the idea of drifting through life and letting life decide for me, so always weigh up all my decisions and always look ahead to see where a decision may or may not land me. Guess I'm a bit of a control freak!
Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
Not sure if I understand your question. Let's just say I don't like making mistakes. I like getting it right.
If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
Never join a cult! And if you're a born in, question everything and get out at the earliest possible moment!
How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
Because we're not all robots!
What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?
Get a really well-paid job! (Have to get through school first, but that's well in process and is going great, so maybe I'll get there)
Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Are you calling me a hoarder? Don't really know. Define the word "need".
Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
I'd like to think so. I do think so. That being said, the borg stunted me socially and real friendship was never something I fully experienced while in there. I guess because I never really fitted in. I am now having to relearn what it means to be a friend with the great new people I'm meeting and who are holding their hands out to me. I feel a bit like a wild animal when it comes to accepting their friendship. Thank you Borg! Great training you gave me! (Not!)
Is is possible to know the truth without challenging it first?
Everything is possible in life. Never say never!
Has your greatest fear ever come true?
Not really a fear freak.
Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset? Does it really matter now?
Don't need to wait five years to realise that the thing I'm upset about is completely trivial. I'm usually thinking that exact thing at the moment I'm upset.
Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
I am still savouring the delight of no longer being Under The Influence! But in Borg Land every day is identical.
If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
I don't know. Pretty much lost everything/one when I left. In any case, today is almost over, so not much time left to visit anyone.
What is the difference between being alive and truly living?
"Being alive" is passive, "truly living" is active and means doing meaningful something with your life that each individual decides for himself what that is.
If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Because we have been conditioned to belive that making a mistake is bad and maybe even hurts if we happen to have had corporal punishment when a child. Now I have a question for you : what determines that these questions you are asking are the right ones?
-
Terry
Now I have a question for you : what determines that these questions you are asking are the right ones?
I guess it is the fact YOU answered them :)
-
rip van winkle
Terry, did you answer these questions? If yes, would you mind sharing?
-
likeabird
The fact I do something - in this case answer your questions, doesn't automatically make them right.
That line could be used to make anything a person does right.
Anyway, I answered your questions just to answer your curiosity, and because I would have liked that if I was in your shoes (sorry, a bit of cult reasoning showing it's face!), but I didn't see the point to quite a few of them, hence my question to you.
And if there is no point to some of them, I don't mind. Curious minds were just wondering.
