Brothers and sisters all over the world, these inspired words of Paul mean nothing - "Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or undercompulsion" (2 Cor. 9:7) - because the Society needs your money!! Essentially this is the situation: there are three voluntary donations boxes in your Kingdom Hall, one for your own Kingdom Hall's running costs, one for the Kingdom Hall Building Fund, (KHBF) and one for the Worldwide Work.

The latter should be the only one necessary for the Org, because by definition the Worldwide Work encompasses every aspect. However, the KHBF box is a lovely way to exert pressure on faithful givers, by tugging at their heart strings by naming a specific need. So why, when they've got two sources of revenue from each KH, do they dip their hands into the local Kingdom Hall's own funds, by receiving a standard "donation" every time the accounts are read?

Not content with three sources of income from each KH, a levy or tax is imposed on every publisher to finance the air fares of every member of the Worldwide Order of Special Full-Time Servants of Jehovah’s Witnesses, to bring them back to their home countries for a convention.

This tax has been set at 15 cents per publisher, per week, for 16 months. This will amount to approx. $16-18 million!!

Who in the congregation will dare question or reject the proposal put forward to agree with the 'slave's' request?

Governing Body - may I suggest that the accountants whom you employ, (none of whom has a college degree) utilise some of the hundreds of millions you have accrued from property deals, investments, and donations, for the very purpose that this tax burden has been imposed?

They may find this method nets them such a good income that they institute a version of it permanently, quoting the old Temple Tax that every Jew had to pay as precedent . They really are the most blatant, unashamed money-grubbers whilst hypocritically pointing the finger at other religions for their collection plates etc.

At least the heavy washer you throw noisily into the collection plate is a voluntary (worthless) sum, not coerced.

Taxes start low and slowly increase. I can see the WTBTS eventually saying that JWs of G20 countries pay (say $5/wk) more than poorer JWs in African countries who cannot afford even $.15/wk.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

I belive this is a back door to tithing. They won't ever use that term, but as a business owner, when money is tight, I look for different manners of generating income to pay the bills. I've come up with a few "taxes and sur charges" over the years.

I think the months may vary... because a cong i know is 15 cents for 7 months...

What a way to 'give from the heart' when you have to take a vote on it. ;/

    they are smart? arent they?

They find other funds (to make up) in order that the sheeple find themselves feeling guilty into giving more
