Back when I was going in, the idiot that dragged me in wanted me to use a liquid detergent. Back in those days, liquids were inferior to powders. Of course, I complied--this scumbag was going to keep hounding me (and even using the hounders to make a rule about it) until I quit using Tide powder and started using the cheap liquids. They did nothing--about as effective as using plain hot water.

These days, liquids have greatly improved. They are now better than most powders, and the new pods are the easiest. I went out and bought some Tide pods, and found them much easier than using the liquids (the dosing is consistent). I now use those--they are easier per load to cart home and make less of a mess. Only problem--you need to keep the pods dry or they will burst in the container (so far, I never had that happen). Something to think about if you live in a region where very humid weather is a constant problem.

Pods are a mess where I live. They totally stick together. Dishwasher ones too. Just plain liquid.

If you ask southerners, 98% will say "Tide". Funniest thing, but true in my experience.
