The Shuar peoples have lived in the forests and mountains of Ecuador since before Jesus. The Ecuadorian government has sold their lands and mining rights to several international corporations and governments- China, Kinross Gold among the major players. Open pit copper mines and gold mining are underway. The infrastructure is in place with roads leading into the last pristine forests in Ecuador.
8,000 remaining Shuar are uniting to block the industrialization of their homes and lands. Tribal elder Ankuash is hoping for international support to oppose lands that have seen invasion since the Europeans came centuries ago and the Inca's earlier, they were among the few tribes to be successful against their invaders. The region known as Condor or the Cloud Forest is in danger and for the Shuar it may be their last stand this time.
