We like to see the similarities in the Wt. and Catholic religions. What are your views on the election of the new Pope.

Crusted in smoke and tradition. Let's hope they pick a (relatively) young one this time.

Crusted in smoke and tradition.
History and tradition unites us to those who came before over many centuries, and passed on, unites us to those who will come after us. It is one of the great things about the church. The WT has none of this.
Let's hope they pick a (relatively) young one this time.
The youngest person being floated as a contender is Tagle from the Phillipines. He is 55.
No one else is younger than 63 from those considered papabile that I've seen. That said, they usually get it wrong. No one expected JPII.

According to Talk.To.Action, Cardinal Timothy Dolan of NYC is the dream candidate of American Catholic neo-con/laisse faire capitalist Michael Novak.
Much is at stake with the election of the new Pope, will he be a moderate like Gianfranco Ravasi. The election of a Cardinal Dolan would reverse the statements of Benedict XVI who spoke out against libertarian economics which Novak, who sits on the Catholic League Board, favors. Cardinal Dolan was also outspoken against the Affordable Care Act.

How provincial to interpret the election of the Pope in American political language. You disappoint me, designs. Ah, well, I guess there is truth to the stereotype, after all.

Don't be naive then. Outside 'political' and the influence of families of great wealth have played roles in the 'election of the Popes' throughout history.
The election of the Popes was not and has never been by the direction of some sky-god.

It amuses me to see that you think this is a defense of your ignorant application of American political categories to an institution that predates American political categories by a couple thousand years. But have at it, designs.

The modern Popes live and deal in the world of modern politics and governments and try to influence those institutions through formal statements and through their Cardinals and Bishops with the pressure they bring on their congregants. We saw that in the last US elections.

Whats the point of becoming pope ? I mean what do they do besides being old men sitting in a dark room? What exactly is the personal satisfaction from the entire charade ?
