Shunning, rejection and discrimination are things that many have experienced for different reasons.
- Sexual Orientation
- Interracial Relationships
- Religious Conversion
These different groups think they are alone, but they are not. It is time for the people of these different groups to come together and recognize their shared experiences of pain due to rejection and shunning.
Emma S. Phillips and Bridget Gaudette are developing a new book called "Grieving for the Living: Effects of Disownment in Adulthood".

"In addition, to demonstrate the need for such a book, we are conducting a large scale survey meant to assess the impact disownment has on mood and mental health. We will be assisted by individuals that have PhD’s in psychology and social work along with medical doctors and counselors."
