    From the 5/13 Awake

    At school, I often told
    my classmates that my religion
was the original one. I had
    never read what is commonly
    called the New Testament,
    which focuses on the ministry
    and teachings of Jesus Christ.
In fact, Mother warned me not
to, for fear of my becoming
    polluted by its teachings
    .

Why did you decide to read
    the New Testament?

Upon turning 17, I moved back
to the United States to finish
    my secular education. There,
    an acquaintance who said
    that he was a Christian
    told
me that my life would be incomplete
    without Jesus.

    “People who believe in Jesus
    are lost,” I replied.

“Have you even read the New
    Testament?” he asked.

    “No,” I answered.

“In that case,” he said, “aren’t
    you being ignorant, expressing
    an opinion on something you
    know nothing about?”

His words cut deeply, for I had
    always considered it foolish to
    give opinions blindly
    . Chastened,
    I took his Bible home
and began to read the New
    Testament.

I guess this means JWs now have the green light to read everything else outside of WT publications!

Amazingly, later on she prays to God, and two JWs show up at the door.

Time for all JWs to get busy reading the Koran, the Book of Mormon, the Rig Veda, the.....

It's right there in the Awake magazine -- it is "ignorant" and "foolish" to "give opinions blindly" on "something you know nothing about"!

One brother told me after the householder offered us a track that "we don't Need to read any of that we have the truth they don't". I was still brainwashed at that time and it didn't even register how closed minded and pathetic we were.

Almost. It is clear the WTS does not want the RAF (rank and file) doing too much of their own research, but the WTS does this extensively. I was always impressed by this based on what amazing things were often reported in the Awake! magazine, which emphasized many amazing things in creation, etc. So clearly a team of researchers must be set up at Bethel reading all these things and keeping up with current affairs, etc. in order to keep the Awake! magazine going.

So someone at the WTS does all that reading to find errors and find things to exploit for their own needs, but they don't want any witnesses doing their own reasearch. In fact the cult feeling among JWs is that they are not qualified to do too much research, but the super-smart brothers at Bethel are and this is done for them. This creates a lazy and mindless organization who just trusts everything they read in the Watchtower, whether it makes Biblical sense or not.

Also a contradiction, clearly. The Bible requires that every Christian be able to "make a defense" for their beliefs and their faith. Further, the WTS makes the empty mantra for its followers to "make the truth your own", which means not just reading answers but try to understand what you believe to the point of being able to explain it to others -- something very few witnesses are able to do. So why is it there is any problem with even apostate material, if they have to be able to overcome it?

That's why in the past I turned the tables on this hypocrisy by presenting some false teaching of theirs in the form of a question or an indirect manner. That's because the witnesses will gladly try to explain something to any potential "person of interest" but will totally stay clear of someone who is an "apostate."

But sometimes this backfires as well! That's because any witness who has been one for any real length of time is totally brainxdead anyway. I've tried to trick them into discussing an apparent contradiction between the Bible and their teachings and they were able to see the Bible's point of view. Except, they didn't realize what their own teaching was. So the average doesn't even know what their own religion teaches! So even when you get them to turn on those rusty thinking abilities, they will independently come to the right conclusions, but it doesn't affect them at all because they don't realize their own religion is teaching something else.

So it is almost a lost cause trying to enlighten the average witness because they are not only not paying attention to what the Bible teaches, half of them aren't paying attention to what the Watchtower is mis-teaching! They just figure somewhere in all those publications all the answers are there, they don't know the answers, but it's just a matter of looking it up! Just a joke of the "blind leading the blind."

This is the specific reference to JWs, that they are "always taking in knowledge, but never coming to an accurate knowledge of the truth"!

You are not supposed to read it, yet you are supposed to proclaim the religion abides by it faithfully. And you are supposed to get others to believe it, even though you don't read it.

Now, if they really believe the LIE-ble is inspired and all scriptures are beneficial, why do they try and forbid members from reading it in context? Or, if they did, they might realize that the jokehovian witless religion is half Jewish despite claiming to be all Christian. That would turn off anyone that is in it thinking they are finding Christ and that believes Jesus is the ticket to salvation, since they are effectively rejecting this salvation just as the original Jews are proclaimed to have done. It would also turn off people that simply value honesty--they say they are one thing, and they are something else or contaminated with something they claim to be free from. To me, that is a great way to permanently turn people off from joining. The only way to prevent that is to ban members from reading anything not from the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger and to believe and teach their bad doctrines regardless.
