Sleepy:
"The aging Queen of England has a lot in common with the dear Old men of the GB."
She has nothing in common with the GB ... they are light years apart.
" ... The Queen will not abdicate. Why?"
The British people did try to abolish the Monarchy, but it didn't work. It is not that she will not abdicate, but that tradition works for the Brits, and they are not clamoring from her to abdicate.
"Because she believes she has been chosen by God to rule as queen over Britian."
At one time, about a 1,000 years ago, the Catholic Church promoted this idea of the Divine Right of Kings ... but, today, I am sure that Queen Elizabeth is brighter than to think that any god appointed her to be Queen ...
"And the stupid Brits let her have the power."
Whoa!!! "What power?" as Singsongboi said. The British started the the idea of common people taking control, at least from the time of the Magna Carta forward. It took time, but essentially, by the time of the American Revolution, the entire basis of modern law was well laid out by England. The King still had too much power, but since that time, the Royal family have been totally curtailed ... and the PM and Parliment have all the real power. The Monarchy is there mostly for ceremonial and traditional purposes.
"Might as well be a whole country of Jehovahs witnesses."
Hope you are teasing. This is a huge slam against the British ... they are a modern mature democracy, and have often paved the way for other modern nations ... They are far from anyting like JWs ... except for the few JWs that live there ...
Following Bible principles, we will avoid trying to live - or demand others to live - by an extensive and rigid set of dos and don'ts that go beyond the teachings of the Bible. The Watchtower, 4-15-02, pg 22, pp 15
