Quantifying the 1914 mantra - is this possible?

  For those who do not believe 1914 is a big deal and it's not necessary to understand it, think again.

  Once (and if) my friend acknowledges that 1914 just simply isn't true, I want to make it clear that this would mean that every single time a statement was made with respect to 1914 it was a lie and according to your WT cd, there were at least (x) times this date was cited. I want to ask how many Awake magazines may have been distributed in the number of years that it held that 1914 statement.... cause everytime an Awake magazine with the 1914 statement was distributed by the adherents, they promoted and distributed a lie. I want him to estimate how many WDTBRT books may have been distributed since it's publication because that too was the promotion of a lie.

  One kind poster on this board mailed me a WT CD, but I'm using a MAC at home and can't use it on this machine. Would someone do a search on 1914 and provide me with the number of hits you get on the WT cd? Is it quantified like that? I am hoping to take that result and add 12 times the number of years the Awake magazine promoted the generation of 1914 in the masthead.

  Not sure this can be easily quantified. There are 6329 occurrances of 1914 in the WT CD Library (which only dates batch to 1950 for Watchtower and 1970 for Awake, so it's not complete), but not all are about the doctrine. Some refer to things written in that year, or events that happened in that year. It would take quite a bit of research to quantify every place that is strictly about 1914 from a doctrinal standpoint.

  You probably can run the WT Library on your Mac. I suggest Googling it, a lot of JWs have already had to figure this out so there's actually a fair amount of information out there on the Internet about it.

  The Reasoning from the scriptures book was published a year after

  the May 15 1984 WT . That lied to the older folks on the cover

  All throught the Reasoning book is about 1914 and that generation

  It covers the doctrine and events of that year

  The Reasoning from the Scriptures book is a true testimony to false prophecy

  I think I'll keep mine

  I have a feelin' the WTS will edit out a lot of stuff online in the future

  1914 is a complex issue. JWs were divinely inspired to focus on that date as well as 1874.

  1874 begins a generation of 120 years from 1874-1994 and 1914 begins a generation of 80 years from 1914 to 1994. So both dates are relevant though not well understood.

  It could be said that the "parousia" began in 1874, and the "last generation" began in 1914. But there are two misconceptions by the witnesses about 1914:

  1) MISCONCEPTION #1: 1914 ends the "gentile times." WRONG! The gentile times ended on November 30, 1947, when the official Jewish exile ended and the Jews had a country to call their own again.

  2) MISCONCEPTION #2: 1914 ends the 2520 years and thus marks the date of the 2nd coming. WRONG! This is based on revised history dates. The 1st of Cyrus per the Bible must occur in 455 BCE, meaning the 23rd of Nebuchadnezzar II, the year of the last deportation, occurs in 525 BCE and the fall of Jerusalem, year 19, falls in 529 BCE. This corrected timeline dates the 2nd coming between the Summer of 1992 and the Summer of 1993 per the Bible. So 1914 does not date the 2nd coming, though the concept of 2520 years from the fall of Jerusalem is correctly understood by JWs.

  BUT 1914 IS STILL A GOOD DATE for beginning the "last generation" of 80 years from 1914-1994. This would mean that Christ must arrive before the end of that generation in 1994. Per the corrected timeline, the 2nd coming dates to 1992 so that would be consistent with that prophecy and interpretation.

  BTW, 1914 is also wrong because the 70 years of desolation and exile are linked to year 23, the year of the last deportation, and not year 18, as the witnesses are now claiming. So more than the "absolute" dating is wrong with 1914, the "relative" dating is also incorrect! But 1914 is still a legitimate Biblical date to begin the "last generation" which specifically begins with a world war (i.e. nation vs. nation, kingdom vs. kingdom, etc.)

  Without quantifying it, I would say you could demolish the argument that only the Watchtower has the "truth". If 1914 is made-up, what exactly does the WT stand for that is unique? Non-trinitarian? There are other denominations. Using Jehovah's name? They again, are not unique in that. Preaching the word (magazine distribution) around the world? I think the Jesus Film project is more effective, and more on point.

  6329 occurrances of 1914? Let's say half of these are with respect to the lie... That's three thousand times they exponentially distributed the lie.

  Wow, more to chew on! I have to take all of this and digest it so I can regurgitate it clearly.

  Quite a few on the board speculate that the leaders will eventually drop 1914. I see no reason why they ever will. They have recently doubled down on the date, with multiple articles on 607 for the destruction of Jerusalem - all in the name of holding up that house of cards that is 1914. It will be interesting to see whatever they decide to put into print about their latest FDS doctrine, which they will again try to tie to 1914 and 1919 as their supposed appointment.

  But it is also their achilles heel. Get a JW to realize that 1914 is bullshit, and that house of cards comes tumbling down. Some will have to look in the mirror and decide if they will be free, or continue living the lie perpetuated by the WTS.
