Maybe in hindsight they just dont see it worthwhile in monetary value or in gaining converts .Who knows what contributions they received at that convention or what kickbacks they may have received from politicians/councils/municipalitys for holding it in their city.

If I remember correctly their was about a quarter of a million in attendance at that time ? in the late 50`s ?

I know in the 60`s and 70`s they went for more smaller international conventions in more locations around the globe.

And of course their have been far greater crowds at other religous festivals , such as Billy Graham crusades , the Roman Catholic Popes appearances not to mention the Muslim and Indian festivals.

Or is this just another indication of the slow decline in the numbers and influence of the watchtower religion overall ,are we in fact seeing the demise of the jehovahs witness religion , is it in fact running out of steam.

Didn't the authorities in New York vow never to let them do it again because it created such havoc?

I remember one convention at Yankee Stadium and SDA were handing out tracts but blocking the tunnels to do it and it created panic for people standing in the tunnels.

Do you know how much it would cost to rent baseball stadiums (or something similarly large) in the summer?

It's far cheaper to rent unused-for-the-summer basketball arenas.

It's all about cost-cutting these days.

Maybe smaller District Conventions will help them sell travel packages to Americans to International Assemblies, because they want that "huge-ass-assembly" feeling.
