Do secular sources give a positive note on the wearing of makeup among the Israelite women in the Old Testament?

I posted this question on Yahoo answers NOT to discourage those who wear makeup BUT to point out the ludicrous reasoning behind the mind of a Jehovah's Witness:

Do those findings support your wearing of makeup in modern times? If it does, do secular sources speak louder than the perfect Creation of God?

Do secular sources speak highly of women who wore makeup in ancient times?

A Jehovah's Witness stated the following when backing up her beliefs on celebrating birthdays " The M'Clintock and Strong's Cyclopedia. It says: "Jews regarded birthday celebrations as parts of idolatrous worship..." Even secular sources back up the Witnesses".

Can the same be said about the wearing of makeup?

Here are some examples of secular sources:
Even before its use in Egypt, the original painted harlot was Semiramis, the mother-wife of Nimrod, and the founder of the Babylonian Mystery Religion. Semiramis is known as the mother of all harlots. She used makeup, as well as suggestive whorish clothing, for various religious and sexual rituals. The following quote describes the kind of seductive, sensual clothing that she - and later the Egyptians-wore: "Modern knowledge of ancient Egyptian dress derives for the most part from ancient paintings and sculpture, since very few garments have been preserved. The earliest representations of women show them either nude or clad in tightly fitting white linen skirts down to the ankles" (Encyclopedia Britannica, Vol. 5,1979 pp. 1016-1017).

    Your own website states:
    http://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazi...
Biblical references to eye painting are always connected with such notorious women as the scheming Queen Jezebel and unfaithful Jerusalem, portrayed as a prostitute by the prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel. (2 Kings 9:30; Jeremiah 4:30; Ezekiel 23:40) Judging by the large number of glass or stone containers with tiny wands for applying kohl eyeliner that have been unearthed, it is evident that many women in apostate Israel-particularly those of royalty and the rich-had taken up the practice of decorating themselves heavily with eyeliner and other kinds of cosmetics.

Please explain your answer. Thank you.

Did God make an incomplete/imperfect Creation?
Does God want you to "look more beautiful" than you are? Is this the way He thinks? Did the One who made you neglect to add just the right amount of makeup, so that you can be "at your most beautiful?" Does He want you to attempt to improve on what He made?

"If God had meant for women to appear as they do after painting their faces, He would have designed their faces this way from creation-and THEN said, "It is very good.""

Once again, I am not against the wearing of makeup but a particular Jehovah's Witness seems to suggest I do. It is out of plain ignorance not see the inconsistent reasoning presented by the Jehovah's Witness who made the quote/comment mentioned above.

    I_Love_Jeff:

I get the sense that YOU have a problem with makeup.

As for asking if God made an incomplete or imperfect creation: Well we wear clothing, don't we? We don't walk around nude. So, does this mean the bodily creation is defective? (Maybe we should have been covered with fur, LOL)

The truth is, people have blemishes, birthmarks, etc. Makeup is sometimes about adornment and enhancement, and sometimes it is about concealing imperfections.

You could take this argument a step further and say a bald person has no business wearing a wig. It gets ridiculous, really.

As for me, I like my cosmetics, perfume and adornments. They make me feel good.

It is the same with how long a man's hair can be....all sort of personal rules and elder rules by congregation.

Husbands and fathers of minor girls can decide whether they can wear makeup or not. If the community frowns on makeup, can't wear because you will stumble people.

I remember a PO once gave a special needs talk about makeup and how unchristian it was for women to wear. He talked about hair dyeing, nail polish, how tall high heels can be, nylons are required, hair can't be to short, no red lipstick, no ankle bracelets, toe rings, etc.

They had a new CO for the first time in the circuit. And yes, Sister CO dyed her hair black, wore hoop earrings, flaming red long nails, 4 inch heels, foundation, blush, too tight a skirt.....

My uncle at another congregation said in general women should not wear makeup...I pointed out that this wife did....he looked at her and said he couldn't see any makeup....saving his rear or blind?

I had a beard for quite a time and there was a the service meeting that was arranged to a beard bashing for the full time with no prior warning to myself, and, I being the only one with a face.

The elder that said the most; daughter sat in front of us in skimpy strap and bare it all.

and when the embarassment was at its height for the cong my wife in a rare fit of loyalty made mention of this and miss slid down in her seat and afew others.

and what with this thing where sister get their seat and then take their shoes off? If they hurt then deal with it or buy larger size...??

I have nothing against wearing makeup but when hypocrites use the Bible to make weak implications based on weak biblical verses such as not celebrating birthdays because of negative association (murder), what should be said about wearing makeup?

I have come to the conclusion that the Jehovah's Witnesses use the eisegtical approach to the Scripture. Any objections based on the inconsistent teachings (birthdays vs. makeup) mentioned here?
