  I do remember when I was working at a computer store around a decade ago that ViewSonic was one of that store's preferred brand for selling. Reason was their low failure rate... well under 1% of the monitors sold came back for warranty repairs. That's with a 3 year warranty too. Don't know what the situation is like with them today though.

  I say.. just buy a monitor. Unless you are prepared to spend high-end gamer prices for LED backlighting or an outrageous refresh rate with a valid reason for it (3D Vision, etc.)

  Save your money for a good video card. $100 invested in the video card goes a lot further than in monitor tech.

  It depends on what types of games you enjoy. Experiencing the faster games
  in 2D is improved with better pixel response rates/lower lag, and monitors vary
  widely in that regard. You need a pretty good GPU to run the latest games on
  the fastest or color accurate/high res monitors. (4K resolution is coming later,
  too.) But whether you favor good colors or speed, why spend a lot of money for
  a GPU to run a monitor that's slow or has poor colors? The fastest are known
  for meh colors, so I looked for the fastest at 2560 x 1440 with excellent
  colors/resolution.

  Another GPU consideration is that the next gen GPUs at 20nm are due later (AMD
  Volcanic at the end of the year and Nvidia Maxwell early next year), so I might
  wait to see what reviewers like NCX/MenacingTuba and prad say is a good monitor
  then.
