I have heard rumors about this but no confirmation. If true, it is astounding.
Please, feel free to debunk it. There appears to be a wave of 'nullification' actions across the country, as with gun control, hemp production and marijuana.

I found out more about this. It pops up from time to time and is exaggerated.
OTOH, the nullification movements are real and ongoing. And 30% of the US think 'armed revolt' may be needed in the near future, so who knows?

And the government is carefully studying how to implement martial law against 'patriots' or 'tea party' types.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Nope, civil war is not near. Conspiracy people probably think it is though, along with a number of other things, UFOs and an Alien Attack, Obama finally putting his black cloak on and removing the contacts that hide his red glowing eyes etc etc...If a civil war does break out, I will come back on this thread and apologize. ;-)
The country may be going through a transition into a more pure form of socialism. This is polarizing the country. Conservatives feel the libs are simply misguided, the libs take the position that conservatives are evil. This is a bad starting point for partisan compromise. Polls indicate a pretty balanced split in the two factions. Looks like a long haul. Civil war? It's already here. No muskets needed.
I see a split between urban dwellers and the rest of America. Colorado is mostly open land, small cities and ranches, but the urban (Denver) liberals have gained control of the State government and are steering the state in the direction they want.
I see interior borders in this country in the future.
Sometimes I swear people post items here as a joke. How did it work for the Confederacy of Southern states during the Civil War. If the South could not leave the Union, which was comparatively unimportant compared to now, how will states nullify. This is idiotic. First, we have a military. The U.S. Supreme Court, under Roger Taney, challenged Abraham Lincoln's "dictator" moves during the Civil War and lost. Control of federal troops, nuclear bombs, missles, regular bombs, grenades. Consider the Special Forces and then a state National Guar unit. Second, we have the cash. All the wayward states would need to change their mind would be a cut off of all Social Security and Medicare checks.
Society is vastly more complicated. The Union could survive without certain states. No state can live without the Union. People act as if the United States never had a civil war. Nulification was a tired doctrine before the Civil War. I will learn how to use firearms myself to defend the Union. Hey, all NYC alone could do is stop the cash flow through the financial district to particular states. The Union is eternal. If it were formed to be undone at a whim, there would be const'l provisions dealing with this. All the writings of the Federalists, conventions debates, and ratification conventions assume an eternal federal union.
God blesses America. God does not bless New Jersey or Colorado. America, the beautiful. Not, Kentucky the nice looking state.
I knew this in third grade. Of course, I attended public school in the North. Sigh.
PS: The international consequences would be enough to stop any attempt at nullification. Does anyone think that a U.S. President and Congress would allow possible foreign governments to ally with any state against federal interests. Too many Americans have died in battle for this Union. Think Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Where do you check these sources? No wonder certain people were Witnesses. It is very sad and national embarassment. Brits are here. Canadians are here.
Texas has it's own power grid and oil and gas wind power.
-- research the trading with the enemy act from WW1 and how it has morphed into total federal domination of the states. I have been following some court cases where the judges just ignored the laws- with unpublished judgements, they can do that. Who is going to do anything about it? Eric Holder? Hardly.
Citizens used to be able to have indepenent grand juries to investigate corruption- not now. If the prosecutor doesn't allow it, it doesn't go before the grand jury. The criminality by government officials and politicians is out of control.
I wish people who are following it would state their credentials or experience to evaluate it. Reading right wing newspapers or visiting ultra right wing web sites is not a credential. If this were happening, regular papers would report it.
Henry Clay and John Calhoun argued for nullification before the Civil War. Daniel Webster defended the Union.
Forget about negligble wind or other energy sources. The feds can cut off electricity, water, gasoline, etc. Local banks could not function without federal funds. Equity and bond shares could be declared null and void. Our very dependence on computers and science today heralds what would happen. How many states could maintain the federal highway system for three months? What state is going to monitor Chinese imports or anything else for safety concerns? Which state will collect and encourage scientific inquiries. The feds can shut down local hospitals.
This is silliness. It was a political point before the Civil War. If anyone believes this is real, I truly feel sorry for them. This is written for losers to encourage more losers by losers.
Try using a regular telephone if the federal governmnet thinks otherwise.
If this could happen, it would have happened in the 1820s. Society has changed drastically. FYI, the growth of the modern government is traced to increased Union power from the War. The states had power in most areas until FDR's administration. Conservative justices have endorsed this trend. Complex societies require it. Perhaps a Garden of Eden would not need a strong union. We are discussing the Hamilton/Madison-Jeffersonian debates on this forum. The present year is 2013, not pre-1789. Some political idiot is playing you big time.
