Hi everyone,

Notice what Jesus said about them here. (Mt 23:3)
Incidentally, Matthew 23:2 is interesting too. See various translations of it here. What's interesting is the snide twist the NWT gives to 23:2.
(Matthew 23:2) . . .The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses.
The addition of "themselves" gives a sense usurpation that is not in the Greek text. But the Society has always equated the Scribes and Pharisees with the clergy of Christendom, so that the NWT parallels the WT view of such non-WT religious leaders.
Jesus is saying the Scribes and Pharisees represented a valid religious authority, although such authorities are not above criticism or disobeying if their teachings go beyond God's Word. Some commentaries find Jesus' words surprising, given the strong words he had for them.
