Churches hold Queen Mother services
Cathedrals and churches were holding a series of special services to give thanks for the life of the Queen Mother.
Among the cathedrals where services were being held were St Paul's, Rochester, Gloucester and Norwich.
Last night Ripon Cathedral in North Yorkshire played host to a civic service of commemoration and thanksgiving.
A Church of England spokesman said: "Special services or prayers will be held at churches and cathedrals all over the country.
"It's an opportunity for people to give thanks for the life of the Queen Mother and to pray for strength and comfort for her family."
The St Paul's Cathedral service, will be led by the Dean of St Paul's, the Very Reverend Dr John Moses, while the address and blessing will be given by the Bishop of London, the Right Reverend Richard Chartres.
A spokeswoman for St Paul's said: "It will be a celebration as well as a commemoration. The hymns that have been chosen are the Queen Mother's favourites."
The service of thanksgiving at Gloucester Cathedral, which starts at 3pm (0000 Monday AEST), will be conducted by the former Dean of Windsor, the Right Reverend Michael Mann - a close friend of the Queen Mother's.
Spokesman the Reverend John Horan said: "It is hoped that many people will take the opportunity to offer their prayers.
"The Queen Mother regularly visited Gloucestershire for the Gold Cup meetings at the Cheltenham Races in March and this year was the first year she was unable to attend."

I wonder if we will hear reports of similar services at Kingdom Halls? Probably not. Yet in God's Word doesn't it say to "have honor for the king."? (1 Pet. 2:17)
