The "Check Engine" light for your mind: Impractical thinking doesn't fit the real world.

What is practical is what must be done to succeed at something.
IF you have "right" practice then you achieve good results.

Think of playing Golf. The right swing will achieve an accurate drive.

Morality, for example, is like that. You lie to people and they don't trust you. Why? Because you've violated a law of religion? No.
It is because you cannot be counted on. You prove your lack of trustworthiness by your action of misrepresenting reality. Truth telling is the sort of morality which is: merely practical. That is: it must be done to succeed at something: being trusted and included among your fellow man.

So, in short, life teaches us what is real. It takes an unwillingness to continue to fail at life to get our attention.

The rational thinker wakes up out of their Matrix-like stupor one day and asks themselves, "What is going on here?"
The definition of insanity is: Continuing to do the same thing and expect different results.

We begin our rational thinking when we first RE-EXAMINE our definition of words. Then, we RE-Examine all the contexts which those definitions affect.

Without accurate definitions we are in an illusory make-believe world where anything goes!

Take that word: Spirituality, as an example.

There is flesh and there is spirit. These are opposites. Flesh can't BE spirit. So, that makes the core idea of "spirituality" a counterfeit concept. It is an actor's hallucination that he IS the role he is playing---right?

Take each and every CONCEPT word you know and see if you can give a short definition. Quirky definitions divorced from reality spin you out of rational thinking.

We must operate on a sense of reality or we we deflect our intelligence to a will-o-the-wisp.

You can't play life deuces wild and win.

Whims are red flags! What is a whim? The strong urge to do something without being able to attribute a rational reason to that feeling!

Impractical ideas detached from reasons are the "check engine" light for your mind!!

What is KNOWLEDGE? :What is known in a particular field or in total; facts and information.

Practical knowledge is useful to actually DO something necessary.

Impractical knowledge is useless for anything but debates about illusory and imaginary constructs.

From the period of our birth until the time of our death a CLOCK IS TICKING.

Everything we achieve takes place in between.

    We only ACHIEVE when we......"do".

Doing must be practical to achieve something lasting.

Look at what an incredible, time-wasting hot mess the "knowledge" of Jehovah's Witnesses has always proved to be!

Speculations passed off as irrefutable and absolute Truth failed time and time again.

Each generation stubbornly insists on imaginary events about to be proven real---only to die entirely wrong and defeated by worthless knowledge.

LIFE must be treated real--because it IS.

All the silly ideas and impractical "truths" are just so much time-wasted.

Unplug, turn off and tune out from impractical distractions and use the TIME you have left to achieve something REAL for your life!

The WTS has been selling impractical thinking and disregarding reality, promoting that spirituality is going to eventuality change the world

and human existence for the better and quite soon I might add.

Spiritual illusions take the focus away from reality with dire and unfortunate consequences.

    We--each of us--have a legacy as a JW.

We infringed on the minds of others as persuasively as we could muster the strength to convince them to come to the dark side.

We may well have given our life to demonstrate loyalty to the madness!

Nothing we advocated, debated, advised or recommended in this regard had the least practical value!

How do we now confidently stand in front of our mirror and proclaim we are "done with all that"?

Isn't the brain inside our skull the very same brain?

to a realistically minded person this is true however this isnt practical. example... the internet and politics. on the internet, many people comment with the crowd for a thumb up even if they disagree.

in politics, we are promised the same shit every election. every time the bar gets lowered just a bit. and we still have people trying to represent or fault the other party to justify their own incompetence.

id go so far to say that the check engine light is a gimic by the manufacturer to make stupid people come in and pay for unneccesarry services... this is fact. unfortunantly gullible people will continue to be pawned by oppertunists; regardless of the flawless logic folks like yourself provide.(broken engine light). basically stupid can not be fixed like a check engine light. and some of the cattle need to be fenced.

It's staggering really how millions of JW's can still blindly follow the religion given the epic 100% fail record of its 'prophets' with their woeful litany of presumptous prognostications. They often use an illustration for having faith: if someone keeps telling you something over and over and it proves right, why would you doubt them? Yet JW's have put their faith in a religion that has kept telling them things that over and over and over again have failed to come true. And yet JW's are told it is a sin to doubt their leadership and that they must put their full trust in the 'faithful and discreet slave' to have eternal salvation. It's mind-boggling irrationality. It is indeed the definition of madness.

It seems most JW's are either totally irrational or feel trapped in some kind of "cry wolf" situation where they are scared that as soon as they ditch the religion and leave, the end will suddenly come and catch them out. The GB know that they can just keep on crying wolf and get away with it. Ironically, the wolf in sheeps clothing itself is the one crying wolf!

    Very good thoughts Terry.

"Same brain in the skull": made me really think. I was a born-in, left after 35 years. Didn't have the smallest problem in the transition to atheism, AND YET, the brain that lead me to stay and practice a cult is STILL THERE. Made me think.

Actually we still show "cult thinking" long after we leave. I notice it - every day. And that is where the hard work starts. Working on yourself. Not a easy task.

I will say something that is "not politically correct" and will probably not get "thumbs up":

I do think that some kind of lying is part of human nature and even expected by others. I would say 90% of humans are never ready for the full blown hard truth in their faces. People like the "soft truth" (often a lie). A few examples that come to my mind:

"Sweetie, do you think I am fat?"

"Nope, dear, I love you as you are you should just take care and do some exercising."

    versus

"Yes, I actually do think that very often. Matter of fact, sometimes I wake up and think you are a fat cow, but then I strike these thoughts out of my mind, because they are mean, but that is actually what I think of you. Eventhough I love you, you are fat."

Most people are not ready to TELL the truth or to HEAR the truth.

What is "truth" anyway??? Maybe today he thinks she is fat, tomorrow he sees someone that is even fattier and changes his mind and thinks his wife is in reality Olive Oyl. Truths change all the time. But that leads to another dilemma...you know what I mean.

Denying another person their right to reality is not doing them a favor, alas!

Making decisions based on distorted information ruins the best intentions of the decision maker!

We put "feelings" above reality and wonder why the world won't change?

When you tell little white lies to spare somebody's feelings it is like writing them a bad check to cheer them up.

It feels great to be holding that rubber check---until you try to cash it!

Being truthful is a matter of practice and creating a positive relationship rather than one based on false assurances.

The Watchtower Society has been blowing smoke up 7 million people's collective ass for a long time now---and the phony information

they've passed along as though it were really true hasn't helped anybody do anything but WASTE THEIR TIME.

We need to be truthful and we need to change our valuation of being straight with somebody as to what it brings to their life in the long run!
