Do others remember ridiculing the moonies for the exact same thing.

This blogger makes an interesting post:

I was channel-surfing not long ago and came across that scene in Airplane where Robert Stack fights his way through an airport concourse clogged with Moonies and Hare Krisnas, and it occurred to me the scene makes no sense now. Cults vanished around 1980, and people who grew up after that have no memory of panhandlers in saffron skirts blocking their way to the check-in counter.
I wondered idly where the cults had gone. Airplane was released in 1980, which was an interesting coincidence. Were the cultists so mortified at being made fun of in Airplane that they left the airports, hung up their robes, and found jobs as insurance adjustors or software engineers?

I remember the Krishna's at the air ports and some other group. I always thought these guys were crazy when I was a JW, now its the JWs that are there. Yep all along I didn't know I too was part of a crazy group.

    That picture ^^^

We still have those crazies in my city, with their GD tambourines, chanting. They are annoying as hell, and yes, I remember the JWS making a big deal out of it.

At least the Krishna's have great food, the dubs on the other hand.... and they don't look too busy

With the security pat downs, lines and delays, flying these days is very stressful. When I land I just want to grab my bags and get the heck out of there. I can't imagine stopping to look at religious literature of any kind.

I guess its just a new way of wasting time in the so called "ministry"

why don't they work the departure lounge instead? those that have arrived (like us here) have been there and landed safely, on our way.

Their target audience has arrived from a long-haul flight (hence the baggage carousel in the foreground) who just want to get their luggage and clear customs and immigration ASAP.

If I were a tired traveller and did not know what JW.org was, I'd mistake them for airport personnel and if I approached them for help say with directions and realized they were peddling religion, I'd be pissed.

I find it astonishing , in this time of heightened airport security concerns, that airport authorities would even grant permission for this kind of annoying set-up in the first place from any religious group at all - and by a luggage carousel! Who on earth grants such permission??
