According to Jws,Esther was written by Mordecai(1981 NWT edition).

Where did this idea come from?

Dunno, but the story of Esther closely parallels the myth of Ishtar the sumerian goddess, which was around centuries before Esther was written.

jewish tradition i believe. one of the weirdest arguments in the whole SI book, in my opinion. read the book and see if it feels remotely like mordecai is recounting his own experiences. he is involved very little and most of the narrative involves stuff he wouldnt have had any knowledge of. any description of what mordecai was thinking or doing when he was not directly involved with the main characters of the story is totally absent. it baffles the mind.

i was commenting on this in the thread on Job too:

    WELLLLLLL...............Since you brought it up.

If you really want to know the low-down on ESTHER.....

The book was NOT mentioned by the NT Bible writers so we know it is not inspired.

The SEPTUAGINT version, which is the original and contrasts with the Hebrew version, shows Esther Married to ARTAXERXES, thus it is definitely not an inspired writing.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED.....was that Nehemiah was a eunuch and in love with Artaxerxes and this is what Esther is about. The chronology and history for this period was distorted and so some substitute "fabbles" were invented to reflect this history. Esther is really about NEHEMIAH who was eunuch in love with Artaxerxe but who was vailiant in inspiring his people to get-it-together with the repairing of the walls that had been damaged in the last attack by their enemies. Thus ESTHER is really the story of Nehemiah only he is BOTH the characters of Mordecai and Esther. This is the part of Persian history that had to be supressed. And yes, they threw in a few pagan references as well, but that's the nature of the mysteries.

So ESTHER is NOT INSPIRED, with the Septuagint Version giving the true historical setting during the reign of Artaxerxes who is the same king as Xerxes. Esther, thus simply talks about what Nehemiah did in a convoluted manner so that you don't recognize him so readily.
