Cancer Research Update

Life Extension's Annual Directory states (pg13) that they are doing a Phase I/II trial on dichloroacetate against a variety of cancers. There have been a few studies already suggesting it may be effective in brain/ovarian cancers.

It may involve upregulation of apoptosis. LEF has already published a complete remission (4 yrs) of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma using DCA, as a monotherapy after conventional chemo failed.

I am very happy to read this as I have little faith in the major charities or the FDA in regard to honestly pursuing this matter - and given how cheap DCA is, I can't see any positive drug company interest in it, either. Indeed, I was appalled to witness the nearly instantaneous reaction of the FDA to prevent the public from being able to obtain this substance. To me, that speaks volumes - whatever the outcome of further tests.

"Faith" would seem to be the right word for what's involved here. The scientific evidence seems shaky at best. For example

It may involve upregulation of apoptosis

Or it may not. A University of Alberta study showed that if may decrease apoptosis, resulting in MORE cancer, not less.

"Faith" indeed. One must have faith that the whole system of drug development isn't riddled with such corruption as to be nearly useless.

There is a move currently to demand that ALL results of testing be openly published, not just the cherry-picked positive ones the drug companies wish to be made known. There is a saying, 'sometimes, the half is not told' and it applies here.

The peer reported remission still stands. As to the rest, we will see.
