I've seen it everywhere it seems. Elders holding brothers back from being elder because they didn't like them, had a grudge, jealous of them etc. Selective enforcement of rules as well. What have you guys seen over the years?

    Wow, all of the above.

Seeing firsthand how elder bodies work and how intensely political the whole arrangement is was a major stepping stone to my awakening. After what I witnessed, there was no way in my mind that holy spirit could have any role to play in the appointment of elders. They're line managers - nothing more, nothing less.

I've seen cowards invent lies in an attempt to cover-over their own misdeeds.

Sneaky, embryonic serpents who crave nothing as much as they crave the spotlight.

Yellow as the yolk of an egg.

Self-righteous and puffed up with pride and hot air, always with grand plans that come to naught.

"But it's not MY fault," they cry, "I was frightened, Mommy!"

All of the above. The one I like the most was he smiles to much and is happy. Almost like a scene from "Patch Adams" We all did laugh when the grumpy old elder said that but it worked that person did not become a elder. Hind sight that was a good thing. That person could continue smiling and being happy. Totally ADD

My husband related all those things, lying to cover their rears and setting someone else up was the final straw. He could not be part of it. The COBOE cried when he handed in his manual and other files. All the time telling him that it was how business was done; that they all told lies from the platform.

    Time to go for us....

Two young people get into some trouble. Kid no. 1 tells elder dad about it and gets 'coached' on the importance of confessing to the elders first and then how to act & what to say during the JC meetings. Kid no. 2 who only has a mom - divorced a long time ago & who struggles to get her family to meetings, field service, etc. - is blindsided by the committee's agressive treatment.

Kid no. 1 gets praise for being 'forthcoming' and showing obvious repentance. Get private reproof. Goes on to become a pioneer.

Kid no. 2 gets DFed. This devastates Mom, child eventually leaves and never gets reinstated. Mom and kid no.1 haven't spoken in 20 years.

if any thing that will bring the wt down, it is abuse by elders , wt appointees all.

It has become worse with time and stricter controls.

good thing they can not abuse those that are out of their reach,

do not tremble at their thin-air might, "glorious ones" aura. !

When my Mom collapsed with COPD back in the early '90s and my Dad had to take time away from Botchtower's agenda to look after her, all the elders at my parent's hall did was hound him to pio-sneer. They didn't lift a finger to help him with taking care of his wife.

    That spoke volumes to me.

I recall there was a guy who was reaching out TM and certain members of the body of elders found as many reason as possible not to to appoint him as an MS. They even forced him to sell of one of his businesses because one of the advertiser was a night club. The bottom line was they were jealous of his Ferrari and 42 foot Sunseeker yacht.
