Along the lines of my previous thread...

Would it be a cool idea to invent a computer strategy game where you are in control of Jehovah's Witnesses and you can manipulate various policies and watch the results? Run your own religion.

Set a new end date and watch the activity rates rise.

Drop the blood ban and see if membership increases.

Open/close branches and find out if it increases revenue.

Appoint a controversial new GB member and monitor correspondence from the faithful.

Drop the pioneer requirement to 50 hours a month and see how many extra pioneers you get/whether activity increases or goes down overall.

Bring back the Book Study groups and determine whether that increases or decreases morale.

Open a TV channel and see if that increases converts.

And so on. It would be pretty cool if it could be done. Good fun to play, and have a subtle undermining effect on the faith of any JWs who stumble on it and play, if well executed.

Sort of like a SimOrganization, or The Sims: JW Edition...but it would be forbidden. "We imitate the faithful slave, not by playing simulation video games, but by having as full a share in the ministry as possible."

Appart from the incentive of money, political or social effect, and power over others, high control groups provide a pool of trusting people and a close environment over which the leader/s have a lot of control. The more ensnared someone is, the more ensnared they can eventually become.

The WT works like a totalitarian micro-society. Witnesses trust the organization blindly in EVERYTHING they do, including very personal decissions, and are kept in an infantile state for all their lives unless they decide to leave and pay the consequences.

Having this type of influence over millions of people over the world is not a force for civilization.

That is why knowing who is behind high control groups is a matter of public concern as is THEIR mental health. Tom Cruise once boasted in an interview that they are the authorities on the mind, which raises some disturbing questions when you think about what that means.
