I was checking on Amazon.com the other day and I noticed that there was a revised edition of CO Jonsson's book "The Gentile Times Reconsidered". I have the 1986 edition which is 228 pages long, but I've heard that the new edition is 360 pages long. Can anyone who has this new edition enlighten me as to what new information is i this superb publication?

My 1998 edition says this in the foreward:

Readers of an earlier printing of this book will find much that is new here. Entire sections, including some new chapters, have been added. Contributing to the readability of the book is the inclusion of about thirty illustrations, including letters and other documents. Many of the illustrations are rare and will undoubtedly be new to most readers.

The original research behind the book inescapably brought the author on a collison course with the Watchtower organization and --not unexpectedly--led to his excommunication as an "apostate" or heretic in July 1982. This dramatic story, not told in earlier additions, is now presented in the section of the Introduction titled "The expulsion".

The discussion of the chronology of the Neo-Babylon period has been greatly expanded. The seven lines of evidence against the 607 B.C.E. date presented in earlier additions have now been doubled to fourteen. The evidence from astronomical texts form a seaparate chapter. The burden of evidence presented in chapters 3 and 4 is indeed enormous and reveals an insurmountable disharmony with, and refutation of, the chronology of the Watch Tower Society for this ancient period.

Despite the wealth of information from ancient secular sources, this book remains primarily Biblical. In the chapter "Biblical and Secular Chronology" it clears up a common and serious misconception as to how we arrive at a "Biblical chronology" as also the erooneous idea that a rejection of the Watcht Tower's 607 B.C.E. date implies a placing of secular chronology as superior to such "Biblical chronology".

There are new sections, even new chapters, 30 illustrations. It includes the DF-story of COJ.

Now, there are not only seven lines of evidence against the destruction of Jerusalem in 607 B.C.E. but there are fourteen lines of evidence.

hey george, welcome to the board! Yes, the updates are more stingingly true, and when compared against the backdrop of new teachings (for instance the "generation" word shuffling) the revisionist history becomes even more clear. In Ray's book I'm reading now, it's reassuring that the thoughts and points he presents are contrasted to the "new light" that was present in my heyday in the Borg. I'm a little young to remember concretely the teachings re 1975, so I appreciate the up-to-date following.

If I were you, of course, I would get the updated version.

As an elder, you would appreciate that even more, as Ray speaks from the horse's mouth (even when the rest of the GB at times were speaking out of their collective ass including his own uncle Freddie). BTW, Ray is much more delicate and charitable than my description of them (which adds immeasurably to his credibility).
