Once in a great while, I stop by a local repair shop and enjoy a cigar with the owner. He's a great guy with a lot on his mind and we always have a lot to talk about. Last time I was there I noticed a watchtower on his counter with an actual PEN on top of it! So I finally got up my nerve to ask about it, just in case he was in the midst of a conversion experience, and he spilled it to whoever is calling on him that Stillin comes by and burns a cigar once in a while.

I need to do damage control, you know...

i know the brother who has been coming by there and I like him. So does the shop owner, who assured me that my closet-cigar smoking will remain a secret with him. But his life is really a shambles. I'm not talking him away from the org, only pointing out some of the cultish practices. But I sure hope that one of my few secrets doesn't get leaked to the Gestapo.

The Gestapo… lol. That was what we called the body of elders in Washington state when I was growing up. They were known by many of the congregations around the area as the body of Gestapo. I don’t miss that hall at all.

As far as cigars, I have been smoking one or 2 a month for the last few months. I love it. Good luck on damage control.

Gestapo is good. We used to refer to the Governing Body as the KGB. "Kingdom Governing Body" if an uberDub asked for clarification.

Athanasius, KGB! I love it! Mind if I use it? :)

    Absolutely!

At this point the repair shop owner is a questionable witness (non-JW, although JC can accept testimony of "worldly credible" witness) for a JC. The brother he leaked it to, is NOT an actual witness to the "sin". Heresay.

You must absolutely make it clear (if asked about it) that the shop owner has confused you with someone else. If you can trust him, tell him he must state the same thing if asked about it -- "yeah, I guess I might be confused"...........

Beware! You're on their radar now!

I remember a householder saying how he goes to the horse races with a Witness, gave the guy's name and everything. I just thought it was funny. Fortunately for him,the Witness I was with, didn't know the guy or what hall he attended,if any.

I think this a good point to keep in mind,if you want to stay off the radar. Be careful who you talk to about leaving the religion. They may have Witness family or a Witness calling on them, and may talk about you to them. They have nothing to lose or may not fully understand the repercussions for you.
