The following comes from Proclaimers of God's Kingdom book, 1993

    *** jv 69-71 6 A Time of Testing (1914-1918) ***
    Objects of Attack

March 15, 1918, the Watch Tower Society released the tract Kingdom News No. 1.

Its message? The six-column-wide headline read: “Religious Intolerance—Pastor Russell’s Followers Persecuted Because They Tell the People the Truth.”

Below the heading “Treatment of Bible Students Smacks of the ‘Dark Ages’” were set forth the facts of the persecution and the ban that had begun in Canada.

The instigators? The tract pulled no punches in pointing to the clergy, who were described as “a bigoted class of men who have systematically endeavored to prevent the people from understanding the Bible and to throttle all Bible teaching unless it comes through them.”

This is the Watchtower referring to its own religious membership as "Pastor Russell's Followers".

Judge Rutherford had approved of this article.

Is this an admission of sorts? Was this religious movement merely followers of a MAN?

No mention is made of Jehovah or Jesus or christian.

They self-identify as Bible Students and Pastor Russell's Followers.

    Interesting, eh?

Years ago I researched the Canadian newspapers where the Jehovahs Witnesses were getting persecuted.

You know that is really slanted!

After the war the military went back home to Canada but they could not find jobs. Canada hired the soldiers to shut down foreign companies. They had ALL foreigners who started business banned. The military went through out the city and trashed: book stores, libraries, factories you name it they were forced to close. Watch Tower society in Canada were forced to close up shop incuding going door to door, but I doubt that anyone was hurt or persecuted!! Not too sure but I think this was only one city.

After reading the newspaper article it was far from persecution for telling the truth that the WTBTS wrote in the magazines in the states. They clamied it was because of preaching and declaring God's name. Those articles were set up only to place post war time fear on JW members who were publishers. Claiming it could happen here in the U.S. For years it worked because we prepared for persecution and it was talked about among members.

    Just more twisting the truth!

Whe Rutherford released Finished Mystery containing hateful anti-Patriotic material he and seven of the board were arrested.

After an investigation, the Federal authorities prosecuted for sedition.

They were convicted because, the truth is, they had interfered with men already serving in the army by sending in stacks of books

    urging that soldiers refuse orders.

The Watchtower has forever after spun this as persecution. It was christendom drumming up hate. It was Satan. Blah blah blah.

No, I'm sorry, it was hateful and illegal meddling and they are very paranoid without reason.

When you go out of your way to insult the military, patriotism and soildarity in a time of World War you are ASKING FOR TROUBLE.
