This article offers statements made by a respected political figure and it articulates (better than I could) what I strongly perceive is happening in the world.
I follow trends and read many aggregation news sites and am struck by what I see in this past year. It appears that longtime and stubbornly held ideas are suddenly melting away. Consider:
Gay marriage was, until recently, used as a wedge issue to win elections. Not anymore. The polls have shifted and some pundits have expressed surprize at the speed at which this is happening.
Long held prohibitions against marijuana use and hemp cultivation are evaporating. Today, it was announced that the Federal government will stop trying to hold back the states on this.
Connected to the above, a majority of Americans are reported to favor nullification against the Feds ! And yes, the states are openly nullifying gun control, hemp, marijuana and the NDAA laws. There is a move by some Republicans in Texas to put secession on the ballot! And secession has already been brought up by Vermont.
Today, the Prime Minister of Britain was defeated in trying to start a war with Syria. France suddenly backed off from it, too. The White House is stunned by this opposition to war. Other surprizes? Powell and Rumsfeld don't feel war with Syria has been justified. WTF?
Today, the Washington Post published details (formerly repressed) about the size and structure of the US 'Black Budget" - to the surprize of many.
Much of this stunning change is because the internet is winning and the old mass media is losing. Who says the internet makes it diffcult to govern (or just lie to the people)? Well, .... John Kerry...... Jay Rockefeller... and Brzezinski, as above.
Reading the news has never been more exciting. Who knows what may happen next?
