When they talk about leaving...

I was thinking back to my conversation with my friend and he said several times that he was torn and thought about leaving the organization. He didn't address anything specifically and does not seem at all able to criticize the group in any fashion whatsoever so I'm thinking that it's an emotional response and not an intellectual one.

I think it's pretty telling that he can't bear to speak critically about the group. He's obviously not ready to take another look at the group itself and believes the blame for these feelings lays squarely on his own shoulders. If he has any specific reasoning behind his statements, he isn't sharing them at this point.

I was wondering if any of you heard friends or family members saying these sorts of things and if they acted on them? Obviously everyone is different but I was wondering if just verbalizing it is something considerable in your estimation or do witnesses say these sorts of things often?

I have known some JWs to make these threats in years past, some acting on them and some not. Maybe you can talk more with your friend to find out why. For some JWs it is a call for attention, and they really do not want to leave it ... for others, they are burswting at the seems to find someone to trust, and they do want to leave.

I have a df'd friend that won't say anything against the borg. Lives a "worldly" lifestyle, like Yardif and You Know, but refuses to denounce the WTS.
