If a long time elder with a very good reputation died because he was drinking and driving, will one of the elders give the funeral talk?

Its' their call I believe. Anyone can give a funeral talk by the way, they simply need permission from the body of elders to have it in the KH. But out of the Kingdom Hall they may do as they please, it just wouldn't be a congregation supported or sanctioned event if the body decided it was innappropriate to have it in the Hall.

We had an elder commit suicide, the sister that was with the family that morning saw the note. The elders gave him a normal JW funeral in the KH on the basis that the coroner had not officially said yet how he died. That was not true at all. It actually helped me leave, because I knew the truth of the events that occured but when I asked the PO seversl times he kept lying about the situation.

I understood the difficulty of the situation, they didnt want him to have a non JW funeral and this was the only way to slip it past the senior JW dicks and other JW's, lie to them all. obviously i think it is outrageous that he would have been denied it, a death is a death and should be respected. Anyway thanks to all the lying it went ahead and also opened my eyes that litttle bit more.

I couldnt believe how easily this elder lied and played on words and the facts to his advantage, taught me a lot. Also gave me an appreciation of just how 'faithful' to the borg he was when it was personal to him.

If a long time elder with a very good reputation died because he was drinking and driving...

That sounds like more than just a hypothetical question. Do you have details? What eventually happened? The justification from the elder giving the talk is that not all the facts are known, which may be true. The other piece of information that may affect the decision relates to whether or not anyone else was killed or injured.

I was an elder for 3 years and never gave a wedding of funeral talk. So I don't have firsthand experience with this situation.
