So he became a jw in prison and was not a jw when he committed the rape & murder?

That is my take on it but not for sure. I know of one convicted murder who became a JW while in prison in Marion IL. He converted after he married a local JW sister in that area.
The JWs were allowed to go in the prison for weekly WT studies and were allowed to baptise inmates.
