Pursuading children to be good JW vs non JW

To help pursuade our child to be well behaved we try all sorts. We threaten her with being grounded, no treats, bed early and from Sept we start reminding her she needs to stay on Santas good list. All these things work to a degree. We have other methods too but I'm generalising here.

When I think back to my childhood I was threatened with the fact that Jehovah was always watching me and I could be destroyed at Armageddon.

So my child has the fear that she won't get treats and gifts and I was always in fear of a horrible death.

    Funny

Covey speaks of building a child's inner motivation . This is done by putting the child in charge of a particular chore or activity, avoid micro-managing, and if the child fails to achieve the target, help brainstorm what went wrong and what can be done to improve the outcome later. Make sure the child understands the larger context of the task (i.e. how does it help the child, the family?)

Use reward and punishment (exclusively) for lab rats.

Jgnat , You KNOW, whatever you say, is NOT in any WT 'teaching' aid. lol

What YOU say, sounds, normal, balanced and loving. lol

Too bad you aren't on the writing committee for The Society.

They could use some Christian teachings. lol

Just Lois who was always threatened , to be turned into The Committee, as though they were/are The Gestapo. lol

LOL, Lois Lane. I've seen some abysmal parenting at the Kingdom Hall. And I'm not talking corporal punishment, either. Parents are under such pressure to appear patient, kind at all times. And of course appearance is everything. The child might be covertly pinched, given passive-aggressive threats, or even humiliated in to compliance.

Don't even get me STARTED on Caleb. A boy doing boyish things, freaks his parents out. Don't make Jehovah SAAAAAD.
