So, a couple of weekends ago, I, a non-jw, went to my non-jw cousin's house and lo and behold, two witnesses showed up.

Amongst the many random topics, the mediatorship of Jesus came up. I stated, "...now, in your faith, Jesus is NOT your mediator, correct?" OMG.... you would have thought I worshipped Satan for saying something so absolutely ridiculous.

So, this woman adamantly believes that Jesus is her mediator. Great... How the heck do I... uh, teach the JW what she's supposed to believe?

It would make sense to have her explain one of the "Jesus is only the mediator for the annointed" articles to me. My experiences have taught me that asking a JW to get back to me is a waste of time so asking her to look up the article may be futile.

If I get the article and say that another JW adherent told me something different and ask her to explain the information that was e-mailed "from something called a Watchtower CD" do you think I have a snowball's chance in hell of her looking at it?

No. Even if never a JW they'll think/call you apostate. But if really talking to someone, then WT CD's can work and if the article is too old, then it must be a PDF copy of the "original". Just a quote from an old article they can't look up won't hold any weight.

The only thing you could do is start a real bible study and be extremely 'sharp' on things. You know how the WT twists a scripture and doesn't take it in context, so along the study your questions and answers and insight would point out things like that. I doubt most would be willing to spend that much time though.

I'm just thinking that if I ask her to look it up for me and bring me the information that Christ would be my mediator if I became a JW, I'll be avoided like the plague once she found out she "misled" me.

She was adamant about JWs believing that Christ was everyone's mediator.

Just tell them you have some friends that are JW's, and that they have told you flat out that they believe that jesus is ONLY mediator for your priest class or such things, and that you think it is bunk. If they tell you they don't believe it, suggest that they do not know what they believe, and should be aware of their current teachings if they attempt to speak to others about their faith.

They won't like you, but it will at least SHAME them into looking it up. They may accept the WT reasoning "men...not all men" (are you serious?), but you will still be right.

You can do it in a friendly way, but you are just trying to make an impression to be able to get them to think on their own.

    Problem:

    I was thinking about saying...

"My jw friends are telling me that the information you gave me wasn't true. They provided me with an article that said Christ is ONLY the mediator for the 144,000. I now feel misled by you."

SURELY she'd check then, wouldn't she?

That'll make 8 JWs I've spoken to who won't come near me. What do I care that they don't like me? It's not my goal to make friends. I have a social network. It's my goal to get someone... ANYone out of this cult.

I just wish my friends could be included.

Get them to take an entrenched position, then challenge them to provide you with the literature to back up that position. Try to do it in such a way that they feel obligated to do it. They think they have a life saving message and that they can save you from their killer god with that message if they put in the effort to convert you, so use that to get promises out of them and to get them to do the research.

If they don't come back, that doesn't mean you didn't make your point. There might be a very good reason why they didn't front up.

For the majority of Witnesses, Jesus' mediatorship, like most anything the rank and file doesn't quite grasp, just nods and agrees after the explanation is given.

Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant

the new covenant is for a kingdom

the 144,000 are invited to be a part of that kingdom covenant and rule as kings and priests

Jesus is mediator to the 144,000, the anointed class

however, all mankind can benefit from this covenant

Jesus sacrificial death applies to all who exercise faith

the blessings will flow to mankind through this kingdom

.... when explained to a JW, even though they may think they believe Jesus is their mediator before the explanation, because they are already indoctrinated into the two tier anointed/little flock and the great crowd teaching, most will accept the explanation as making sense (at least this has been my experience)
