Can anyone recommend some good world history books?

I know you will always lose alot in a 'world' history book, but what are some of the better ones?

World history is a huge topic, so best to choose which periods and cultures interest you. And history is written from dozens of different approaches. As for world history, if you want to get an overview of cultures and timelines and geopolitical developments over time, best to get an atlas of world history, or a set of jacaranda textbooks.

For specific people or periods, or events, you can find some good stuff on special sometimes at qbd but online is the best place to search like The Book Depository.

They are expensive and hard to find, but, Isaac Asimov wrote a series of history books that went down like chocolate cake.

They were accurate, informative and whet your appetite for deeper tomes. I read them all. Asimov, was the author of over four hundred books.

Ernst Gombrich, A Little History of the World

The Times Complete History of the World, already mentioned, is excellent. It's a very popular book, I've sold tons of them. (Perhaps literally, it's a very heavy book)
