I really hate it when kids on interviews on meetings or assemblies and they state with pride that they turned down the piece of cake or brownie or other birthday treat at school. Is that something to really be proud of? It is not as if the teacher is tempting them. If you give up loyalty to your God, you can have this cake. Teacher is not focusing on God at all. It is a case of parents telling them something and they follow it.

Having to constantly turn down every holiday and birthday cake, cupcake, and brownie, not to mention every every palm traced turkey, spiderweb, v-day heart- paper snow flake- EVERY DAY to stand but not recite the pledge of allegiance- it does something to a child. I recall sitting out school birthday parties in the hallway by myself, overhearing the happy sounds inside. Did I feel sorry for myself- of course not. They were dead meat, and I wasnt.
On top of that, even if YOU THE CHILD feel like this one cupcake wont hurt anything, your parents have already visited your teachers to inform them that you are to be a social outcast and sit out anything remotely fun or even scientific. But, the child most likely will not take the cupcake because that frosted bit of happiness is a TEMPTATION leading to CERTAIN DEATH AT armageddon.
This is one those instances of JW DOUBLESPEAK. What the child feels is SHAME, so instead lets call it PRIDE.
If it is pride, its is pride that everyone else is going to die, but you, in your cupcake refusing virtue, will live forever and pet the panda.

I think Nelsonian Knowledge is my favorite word of the day. Thanks NeverKnew! The only people that are proud that they are not eating BDay cake are the Witnesses. No one else even notices. Except the poor JW kid who's mouth is watering at 2:00 p.m. during the bday party at school. She is so hungry from a long day at school and her mom has not picked her up yet. So the teacher gives her a cupcake and take the little candle off it and says " now its not a bday cake" and the little girl INHALES the cupcake. Wow that for personal fast :)

When I was pioneering a teacher said in field service that it was the JW children she felt sorry for, they were so isolated they couldn't join in anything. At the time I didn't know what she was talking about but I do now. I am so glad my daughter could go to Xmas, birthday and halloween parties. My late husband used to say you don't have to win the human race you just have to take part.
